Description

Milling Technician / Entry-Level Milling Operator

Build Your Career in Heavy Civil Construction

Banks Construction Company is looking for hardworking, dependable individuals who are interested in starting or growing a career in the heavy highway construction industry. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, likes working outdoors, and wants to learn a skilled trade with long-term career growth.

As a Milling Technician / Entry-Level Milling Operator, you'll work with our milling crews to help prepare roadways for resurfacing. You'll learn how existing asphalt is removed, how milling equipment works, and how our crews prepare roads, highways, and other paved surfaces for new asphalt.

This is an entry-level field position. Previous milling or construction experience is helpful, but not required. We are willing to train the right person.

About Banks Construction Company

Banks Construction Company is a third-generation, family-owned heavy civil and asphalt paving contractor serving the Charleston area. We are proud to be a local company with deep roots in the community and a strong focus on safety, teamwork, and doing quality work. Our core values are Safety, Integrity, Team, and Excellence, and our team lives those values every day on our jobsites.

About the Milling Division

The Milling Division plays an important role in our paving operations by preparing roads and paved surfaces for resurfacing. Our milling crews remove existing asphalt so new asphalt can be placed properly and smoothly.

Banks Construction operates a variety of milling machines, ranging from smaller machines to larger highway-class equipment. Our crews work on a variety of projects across the Charleston area, including secondary roads, highways, commercial sites, and other infrastructure projects.

What You'll Do

As a Milling Technician / Entry-Level Milling Operator, you'll support our milling crews with hands-on field work while learning the equipment, process, and safety expectations of the job. You may help with:

  • Supporting milling operations on active jobsites
  • Assisting equipment operators, foremen, and crew members
  • Learning how milling machines operate and how roadways are prepared for resurfacing
  • Helping with setup, cleanup, traffic awareness, and general crew support
  • Using hand tools and equipment safely
  • Assisting with basic equipment checks and maintenance
  • Learning how to identify proper milling depth, smooth transitions, and quality expectations
  • Working as part of a crew to complete projects safely and efficiently
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned by the foreman or supervisor

As you gain experience, you may have the opportunity to learn how to operate milling equipment and grow into more advanced responsibilities within the division.

Schedule

This position requires flexibility with scheduling. Candidates must be available to work days and nights, depending on project needs, weather, and crew schedules. Hours may vary, and overtime may be required.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is dependable, willing to learn, and ready to work hard. The ideal candidate:

  • Wants to build a career in construction
  • Is interested in learning milling, paving, and heavy civil construction
  • Enjoys hands-on work and being part of a team
  • Can work outdoors in different weather conditions, including heat
  • Is comfortable working around active equipment, traffic, and jobsite conditions
  • Is flexible and available to work both day and night shifts as needed
  • Shows up on time and is ready to work each day
  • Takes safety seriously
  • Has a positive attitude and is willing to help wherever needed
  • Has a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Previous construction, paving, milling, equipment, or labor experience is helpful, but not required. We are willing to train the right person.
