Description This job posting provides the information necessary to apply for entry-level police jobs at City of Milwaukie; please read carefully. All candidates must pass a pre-employment test prior to submitting an application. The City of Milwaukie has contracted with two law enforcement testing options to conduct the first portion of our entry-level recruitment and testing process for police officer positions: Public Safety Testing (PST) and National Testing Network (NTN).

Access information on testing procedures. Complete the required online components.

Choose a convenient testing date, time, and location (remote available). Tests are offered regularly at various locations around Oregon and/or Washington. Essential Functions Examples of Duties Milwaukie Police Officers perform law enforcement and crime prevention work including patrol and investigation.

Sworn officers, enforce federal, state, and local laws, regulations and ordinances and performs a variety of duties including but not limited to the following: Patrols roads, highways, business, and residential areas of the City. Enforces applicable traffic and criminal laws. Makes arrests, issues traffic citations and warnings.

Prepares case records and reports. Participates in the prosecution of cases in court. Responds to a wide variety of radio calls including theft, juvenile complaints, and family disputes.

Investigates accidents, deaths, and criminal complaints. Makes arrests and issues citations when required. Serves criminal warrants, applicable court orders, and subpoenas.

Assists disabled motorists. Provides information and direction to the public. Observes and reports road conditions, hazards, potential crime, and traffic problems.

The Milwaukie Police Department provides a variety of career possibilities for Police Officers through specialty assignments including Detective, Field Training Officer, Motorcycle Officer, Criminalist, Public Information Officer, Transit Police, and School Resource Officer. Education & Experience Required Education, Training and Experience (Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties of this position. Prior work experience and educational requirements listed are typical ways of obtaining the required qualifications.

Other equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered.) High School Diploma or GED; AND One year of experience working with the public. Licensing/Special Requirements: Must possess or be able to successfully complete within probationary period a State of Oregon DPSST Academy Basic Certificate, successfully complete advanced academy training, the Milwaukie Field Training Officer Program, and any specialized training provided through the Milwaukie Police Department. Must possess or be able to obtain within probationary period the following certifications: L.E.D.S

certification for access; Intoxylizer; First aid and CPR. Must be a US citizen at time of employment. Must be 21 years or older at time of employment.

Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid area driver license. Meet the Department's and Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and training physical standards including vision requirements and the Department's psychological standards. Must pass extensive background investigation.
