Job description

Description:

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager/Engineering Lead, the Electrical Engineer I will design electrical control systems for safe, effective, and efficient operation of Forgent products and processes while meeting and exceeding company quality and production standards and customer documentation and delivery requirements. This is an entry-level role within an Engineer-to-Order (ETO) environment; the EE I works on well-defined tasks within a larger project under close supervision, including drafting schematics, bills of materials, and supporting documentation, with significant review and direction from senior engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and draft electrical schematics, one-lines, three-lines, wire lists, BOMs, and supporting documentation under direction and with significant review from senior engineers
  • Review and interpret customer specifications and sales agreements with guidance from mentors to create designs
  • Learn and apply AutoCAD Electrical tools and libraries; AutoCAD Electrical proficiency is expected — EE I may be developing skills on the job, but independent deliverables require functional competency
  • Develop working knowledge of applicable UL standards (UL 891, UL 1558, UL 508A) and NEC requirements; UL and NEC familiarity is actively developing at this level and is non-negotiable for progression
  • Comply with applicable codes and customer specifications within a project management structure to ensure workflow remains within schedule and budget
  • Evaluate and select electrical/electronic components for control systems, switchgear, panelboards, and control panels with guidance
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to address and resolve manufacturing, design, and quality problems, and pursue continuous improvement
  • Attend training and review documentation, procedures, and work instructions to grow technical competencies within the engineering team
  • Support new product development initiatives by staying current with industry products, technologies, and trends
  • Maintain strong relationships with Forgent suppliers, manufacturers, and vendors
  • Provide onsite technical field support with up to 10% local/regional daytrips to customers and suppliers, including occasional domestic travel
  • Follow all housekeeping procedures; comply with all quality and safety regulations

Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to learn to design multi-phase and DC switchgear, switchboards, and panelboards in accordance with customer functional requirements for LV and MV equipment
  • Developing knowledge of UL 891, UL 1558, and UL 508A standards and NEC requirements — expected to be actively building competency, not yet functional
  • Ability to learn and use AutoCAD Electrical; functional proficiency required before independent deliverables are assigned
  • Support product assembly, manufacturing, and testing
  • Provide project coordination and management support for customer orders
  • Develop product/project quotes with guidance
  • Establish and maintain internal, customer, and supplier relationships
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to learn electrical test equipment related to LV and MV products

Qualifications: Required:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline; coursework in electrical power systems a plus
  • 0–2 years of engineering or technical experience (internships or co-op included)
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks PDM, or other CAD design tools a plus
  • Exposure to renewables, emerging energy markets, data centers, battery/stored energy, or EV charging stations a plus
  • Self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills and ability to solve complex problems through collaboration and innovative thought

Benefits:

  • PTO/ESST
  • Paid holidays
  • $100 individual deductible and $300 family deductible health insurance
  • Paid Weekly
  • Vision and Dental Insurance
  • 401K / Life Insurance / STD
