Job description

Audubon is currently seeking a GIS Technician to join our team in our Houston, Texas Office. The GIS Technician will support ROW mapping requests and GIS deliverables by assisting with data intake, cleanup, map preparation, publishing support, and final quality control. This role will help ensure mapping deliverables are accurate, consistent, and ready for use by project teams, field teams, and clients.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Support ROW mapping requests and GIS production needs.
• Receive, organize, and prepare GIS data for mapping and publishing workflows.
• Perform basic GIS data cleanup, formatting, and validation.
• Create, update, and maintain maps, layers, and related GIS deliverables.
• Assist with map publishing and review processes.
• Perform QA/QC checks to confirm map accuracy, layer visibility, labeling, symbology, and completeness.
• Help ensure final maps are clean, consistent, and ready for project or client use.
• Maintain organized GIS project files and related documentation.
• Support senior GIS staff with production tasks, revisions, and project deliverables.
• Learn internal GIS standards, tools, workflows, and project requirements.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Responsibilities:
• All employees are responsible for supporting Audubon Companies' Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures. This includes:
• Performing duties in a manner that protects personal and team health and safety
• Participating in required HSE training, meetings, and reporting activities
• Identifying and reporting hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions
• Following safe work practices and complying with applicable regulatory requirements
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
• Entry-level GIS experience, GIS coursework, or GIS-related training required.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, Environmental Science, Planning, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
• Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or related Esri tools.
• Basic understanding of GIS data types, layers, attributes, and mapping concepts.
• Experience with ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123, web maps, coordinate systems, geodatabases, or map publishing workflows preferred.
• Exposure to utility, ROW, land, environmental, or infrastructure mapping preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established workflows and documentation standards.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple requests, meet deadlines, and support production mapping needs in a fast-paced project environment.
• Self-motivated, team-oriented, and willing to learn ROW mapping, field data workflows, internal GIS standards, and project delivery processes.
• Technical or professional licensing/certification is not required; GIS, Esri, or related technical training/certifications are preferred.
