SALARY (A-E Steps) Environmental Health Specialist I: $27.57 - $33.51 Hourly/$2,205.60 - $2,680.80 Bi-Weekly Environmental Health Specialist II: $30.43 - $36.99 Hourly/$2,434.40 - $2,959.20 Bi-Weekly Environmental Health Specialist Senior: $36.17 - $43.97 Hourly/$2,893.60 - $3,517.60 Bi-Weekly Environmental Health Specialist I: Entry-level - The incumbent learns to perform a variety of duties for the purpose of preventing environmental health hazards and promoting and protecting public health and the environment
Environmental Health Specialist II: Mid-level - Performs investigations and inspections relating to the enforcement of environmental health laws and regulations. Environmental Health Specialist Senior: Supervisory-level- Develops, implements and manages a variety of complex environmental health programs, for the purpose of preventing environmental health hazards and promoting and protecting public health and the environment. Examples of Duties Environmental Health Specialist I: Conducts supervised inspections of various facilities, including but not limited to food handling and preparation establishments, schools, hospitals, detention centers, water supply and sewage disposal systems, solid waste facilities, recreation/pool facilities and other public/private facilities, to monitor compliance with all applicable laws, codes and standards of sanitation.
Environmental Health Specialist II: In addition to the above: Assists in planning, coordinating and managing the daily operations of one or more environmental health programs as assigned; functions as a resource specialist in assigned program(s) to develop environmental health policies and procedures and to recommend local ordinances and standards. Environmental Health Specialist Senior: In addition to the above: Guides and assists Environmental Health Specialists and/or Aides; provides training, counseling and professional assistance on technical skills and professional responsibilities; identifies training needs and provides training for staff; assures training programs meet goals; serves as liaison between the Department and various organizations and agencies; serves on committees and task forces. License and Special Requirements: Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C Driver License and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Other certificates and levels of training may be required dependent upon assignment.
Recruitment Information The department is currently recruiting for one (1) vacancy. In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list for future vacancies for an Environmental Health Specialist I/II/Senior, as well as, vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list. New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range.
Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
