Job description

This Is Not an Entry-Level Position Job Location: Buffalo, NY

Maple Walnut Woodworks, Inc. produces high-end custom cabinetry and architectural millwork where the finish is a defining element of the final product. We are seeking a senior-level finisher with a proven track record delivering luxury-grade finishes. If your experience is limited to production-line spraying, basic staining, or entry-level shop roles, this position is not a fit.

Role Summary

The Senior Wood Finisher is a full-time, W-2, in-house position responsible for executing flawless, repeatable finishes on custom cabinetry and millwork. This role requires independent judgment, advanced technical skill, and absolute accountability for finish quality.

Core Responsibilities (Finish-Critical)

  • Execute premium finishes on custom cabinetry, panels, and architectural millwork
  • Independently manage full finishing cycles: substrate prep → stain/dye → seal → topcoat
  • Perform advanced color matching by eye (not formula-only)
  • Apply catalyzed lacquers, conversion varnish, polyurethane, and waterborne systems
  • Maintain consistent sheen, depth, clarity, and color across multi-part assemblies
  • Identify and correct finish defects before parts leave the finishing room
  • Perform precision touch-ups suitable for luxury, client-facing installations

Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)

  • 8+ years professional wood finishing experience in custom cabinetry or architectural millwork
  • Proven experience on high-end residential or luxury commercial projects
  • Advanced spray-finishing proficiency (guns, booths, pressure systems)
  • Demonstrated ability to color-match and adjust finishes without supervision
  • Strong understanding of hardwoods, veneers, painted cabinetry systems, and material behavior
  • Finish-first mindset with zero tolerance for visible defects
  • Highly reliable, disciplined, and detail-driven work ethic

Disqualifiers (Please Read Carefully)

This role is not appropriate for candidates whose background is primarily:

  • Production-line or factory-only finishing
  • Furniture touch-up only
  • Entry-level sanding or staining roles
  • Apprentice or learning positions

Benefits & Employment Structure

  • Full-time or Part Time, year-round W-2 employment
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance available
  • Paid holidays and PTO
  • Stable workload in a professional, controlled shop environment
  • Quality-driven culture—craftsmanship prioritized over speed

Who Thrives Here

You take pride in finishes that require no explanation, no excuses, and no rework. You understand that at the high end, minor inconsistencies are unacceptable. Your work reflects discipline, consistency, and respect for the craft.

Company Description

Fast growing company, providing high end bespoke cabinetry, design, fabrication and installation.
