Job description

GPI has two exciting entry-level openings for an Assistant Team Leader Trainees to be assigned to our recently awarded New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Structural Inspection Contracts. The objective of this position is to increase the proficiency of minority, women and economically disadvantaged individuals through on-the-job training, however the position is open to all applicants. GPI is a nationally ranked employee-owned consulting engineering firm providing services in transportation design, structure design and condition inspection, construction management, land surveying, and land planning.

Upon the successful completion of the 2-year trainee program, the trainee will meet the NYSDOT experience requirements for becoming an Assistant Team Leader in the Overhead Sign Structure Inspection, Biennial Bridge Inspection and / or large culvert inspection programs. Women, minority, disadvantaged and veteran candidates are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist inspections teams with office and field tasks, as directed, to progress the project scope. (This portion of the work will be performed under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer)
  • Shadow inspection teams to learn the Assistant Team Leader project role.
  • Independent study of technical manuals related to structural condition inspection.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in Civil or Structural Technology from an accredited school. (BSCE & BSCET degree recipients are not eligible for this NYSDOT trainee program)
  • Ability to work comfortably close to expressway traffic.
  • Ability to work comfortably in aerial bucket platforms and while climbing at heights up to 20 feet (while wearing a fall protection harness).
  • Ability to work under adverse weather conditions.
  • Corrected visual acuity of at least 20/40.
  • Ability to follow instructions, record field notes, and operate in various CAD environments.
  • A valid NYS driving license.
