Job Description
Position Title- Environmental Professional - Air Quality
Position Purpose
The purpose of this position is to provide professional, technical day-to-day support and input to the Lead Professional(s) and Project Manager(s), and for carrying out the scope of work in accordance with the proposal and/or the contract terms. Responsible for providing advanced technical, analytical, and regulatory support in the development/completion of assigned environmental projects, primarily related to air quality permitting and compliance.
This role is an entry-level position that can lead to more advanced air quality permitting and compliance and project management roles.
Essential Functions
  • Assist in the development and coordination of air quality permitting and compliance projects for federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate the technical aspects of a variety of air quality permitting and compliance services.
  • Prepare and review air permit applications.
  • Research specifications, materials, environmental regulations, and industry standards
  • Conduct emissions calculations for industrial processes.
  • Perform state and federal regulatory applicability analyses.
  • Assist with air dispersion modeling, environmental data analysis, and preparation of technical reports.
  • Assist with annual compliance and Clean Air Act reporting (Title V, emission inventories, cap & trade, NSPS, NESHAP, TRI, Tier II, etc.)
  • Assist with compliance plan development.
  • Assist with air quality monitoring, field investigations, audits, sampling, and collection of environmental data.
  • Review technical reports.
  • Provide technical recommendations.
  • Evaluate project quality.
  • Achieve the scope, budget, and schedule of the project under the direction of the project manager.
  • Communicate changes in workload or project scope with project manager.
  • Coordinate work assignments with project team members.
  • Promote all resources offered by the firm to existing and potential clients.
  • Organize and maintain project files.
  • Maintain neat and organized work area.
  • Maintain current knowledge of equipment, techniques, procedures, and regulations.
  • Participate in professional development and training.
  • Participate in proposal efforts.
  • Assure drawings and designs are in accordance with project standards.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate, handle, maneuver and/or manipulate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; use manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard, calculator, and telephone; talk and hear; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Minimum Requirements
  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering (Environmental, Biological, Chemical, Mechanical, or related), Atmospheric/Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Engineering Intern (EI) certification or Professional Engineering (PE) licensure preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience air permitting and compliance.
  • Ability to relate to clients and people at all levels of the organization and must possess excellent communication and diplomacy skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret most complex documents.
  • Ability to operate computer, using technical software, which includes computer, aided drafting and other applications, spreadsheets, and other business software.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the associate performs responsibilities in both typical office and outdoor environments and is exposed to weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is usually moderate. Associate does work outdoors and is exposed to the weather. Associate may be exposed to the noise, dust, smells, and other environmental factors present in such situations. Nights away from home are required.
Hours of Work
This is a full-time, non-exempt position, requiring 40+ hours per week. Nights and weekend commitments to the organization, its associates and clients are required.
