Position Overview: The Process Engineer II maintains up-to-date value-stream maps, analyzes production data, defines future state of optimized processes, and works with cross-functional teams to implement process enhancements that stabilize production systems.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
  • Meets with Engineering and Operations managers to assess existing processes.
  • Drafts process ideas to reduce costs and improve production rates.
  • Performs risk assessments.
  • Designs and tests process upgrades and new process systems.
  • Ensures processes comply with safety food safety and quality standards.
  • Performs process simulations and troubleshooting issues.
  • Performs optimization tests.
  • Develops routines and best practices to ensure product quality and safety.
  • Develops standardized operating instructions for the upgrades process.
  • Creates and maintains process documents and standard operating procedures.
  • Collects and analyzes data to prioritize improvement projects and capital spend.
  • Applies sound problem-solving techniques to solve manufacturing and/or material related issues.
  • Organizes design of experiments (DOE) to isolate and control process variables.
  • Participates in cost reduction efforts using Lean manufacturing techniques and leveraging expertise in areas including, but not limited to, changeover reduction, process flow analysis, and statistical process control.
  • Participates in and recommends process improvement and layout through value-stream mapping (VSM).
  • Leverages soft skills and relationship building techniques to engage people in processes to gain buy-in and perspective.
  • Interfaces with ERP, Redzone, CAD, and quality management systems to drive data-informed decisions and improvements.
  • Supports Operations and provides excellent customer service to the shop floor as a technically advanced employee.
  • Assists with managing a variety of projects ranging from small to large, varying in level of technicality with demanding schedules.
  • Distributes clear and concise project updates, problem resolution summaries, and other technical reports to all levels of the business as needed.
  • Serves as a member of various cross-functional teams, such as the Accident Review Team, Energy Team, Scrap Team, and others as assigned.
  • Supports, advises, and drives NPD tasks on behalf of Operations to test and validate new product manufacturing internally.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures and operates all equipment in a safe and food-safe manner.
  • Complies with Bob's Red Mill food safety policies and procedures including adherence to FDA regulations, Safe Quality Food (SQF) Standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Responsible for reporting food safety and quality concerns to Supervisors and/or Department Manager.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

  • The position reports to the Engineering and Fabrication Manager.

Education and Experience:
  • 5 or more years of process engineering experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, AND
  • Bachelor's degree in industrial or manufacturing engineering or similar field; AND
  • Food manufacturing experience preferred; OR
  • Any combination of education and additional years of experience that provides the necessary skills, knowledge, and ability to perform assigned tasks.

Preferred Skills:
  • Familiar with SQF, GMP, and HACCP programs.
  • Skilled in using Autodesk suite.

Physical Demands:
  • Frequently requires the ability to lift and stack products weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Position may require standing for up to 4 hours at a time.
  • This position will require activities including, but not limited to, stooping, squatting, bending, and kneeling.
  • Position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Work Environment:
  • Use of personal protective equipment such as welding helmets, safety shoes, safety glasses, and gloves are mandatory.
  • This position will perform work within all areas of the facility and may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease and extremes and difference in temperature.
  • Employees will be exposed to common food allergens.
