Job Summary

The Screen Maker is responsible for the preparation, coating, imaging, exposure, development, inspection, repair, and storage of screens used in Sakurai screen press operations. This role ensures screens are produced accurately, consistently, and on time to support production schedules, quality standards, and efficient press operations.

The Screen Maker plays a critical role in print quality, press uptime, and first-pass yield by ensuring all screens meet specification prior to release to production.


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • None

Duties and Responsibilities

Screen Preparation & Production

  • Prepare screens according to job specifications and production schedules
  • Coat screens with appropriate emulsions per material and ink requirements
  • Image and expose screens accurately based on approved artwork
  • Develop, dry, and inspect screens to ensure quality and completeness
  • Perform touch-ups and minor repairs as required
  • Ensure screens are labeled, staged, and released correctly for production

Quality & Accuracy

  • Verify artwork, line counts, mesh selection, and orientation prior to exposure
  • Inspect screens for pinholes, image defects, or exposure issues
  • Ensure screens meet department quality standards before press release
  • Communicate issues or discrepancies to Pre-Press or Sakurai Manager promptly
  • Maintain clean, defect-free screens to support first-pass success

Scheduling & Coordination

  • Prioritize screen production based on production schedules and due dates
  • Coordinate daily with Sakurai Operators and Manager to support run plans
  • Ensure screens are completed in advance of scheduled press runs
  • Manage re-screens or rush requests with minimal disruption

Equipment, Maintenance & Housekeeping

  • Operate and maintain screen room equipment safely and correctly
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of exposure units, washout booths, and coating areas
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of screen room and storage areas
  • Properly reclaim, clean, and store screens for reuse

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety procedures related to chemicals, equipment, and materials
  • Use and store chemicals, emulsions, and supplies safely
  • Identify and report safety hazards or equipment issues
  • Participate in required safety and product safety training

Documentation & Systems

  • Complete required logs and documentation accurately
  • Track screen usage, re-makes, and scrap as required
  • Support MES or tracking systems as assigned

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist with press support or troubleshooting as needed
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Requirements:
