About the Opportunity
This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU]
This is an on-site position located in Greensburg, PA.
The job of Drafter requires an individual to create engineering and standard drawings for the Transmission Engineering group within FirstEnergy. This position will work within a staff of engineers, designers, survey crews, drafters, and specialists, both internal and external, engaged in a wide variety of engineering design.
Responsibilities include:
  • Creating and revising drawings and documentation for transmission projects. Examples include wood and steel transmission structures, foundations, plan and profiles, construction lists, crossing permits, and field reports.
  • Working with PLS-CADD to assist in drawing preparation.
  • Preparing bills-of-material and specifications to procure needed equipment and materials for a transmission line project.
  • Assisting ROW Services and Real Estate in the acquisition of transmission line easements and substation property by preparing sketches, maps, exhibits, and easement plans.
  • Assisting in preparing and revising CAD procedures and standards.
  • Providing assistance during emergencies and storm related activities. Storm response duties may include time out of the office for extended stays.
  • Managing drawings and documents using FileNet.
  • Contributing to a safe environment for transmission lines personnel, co-workers, contractors, and the general public.

Qualifications include:
  • Associate degree or certification in computer aided drafting (CAD). Consideration will be given to applicants having technical and operational background in lieu of a college degree.
  • Minimum 0-2 years related drafting experience
  • Working knowledge of applicable computer software necessary to fulfill job duties including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD. Knowledge of FileNet, SAP, PLS-CADD and GIS a plus but not a requirement.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must embrace a safety culture and maintain a safe work environment for co-workers, contractors, and the general public.
  • Must be able to assist on multiple projects simultaneously and be able to work effectively under the pressure of deadlines, unexpected developments, changes in project scope, budget constraints, unforeseen field problems and demands on time for work assignments.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and develop and maintain relationships across FE that facilitate the cooperation needed to complete assigned tasks.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in teams with other FirstEnergy areas of responsibility including Siting and Permitting, Project Management, Maintenance, Forestry, Real Estate and Construction, as well as the Regional operating companies
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with good verbal and writing skills.
  • Must possess strong organizational, computer, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to support numerous locations and must be willing to travel throughout the service area during storm related support
