Job description

Position Summary:
The Gas System Controller Trainee is the entry level position for the sole purpose of attaining section seniority, being trained and promoting to the Gas System Controller classification. This position is out of the Lipan Distribution Center in Denver, CO.
The job duties include:
• Ensure gas system reliability and safety through monitoring and controlling of pressures and flow rates on the Xcel Energy PSCo Gas Distribution and Transmission systems 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, under the direction of the Gas System Controller
• Generate and maintain daily operation logs/reports and responds to alarm conditions by making needed system adjustments or directing needed maintenance actions by dispatching Company field personnel to correct facility problems or failures
• Develop the ability to recognize Abnormal Operating Conditions for a wide variety of field equipment, and understand the corrective actions needing to be taken to remediate
• Monitoring the hourly and accumulated daily system loads on each system and determining in a timely manner when increased supply, curtailment, and/or peak shaving is necessary to stay within supply contracts
• Develop a positive working relationship with other pipelines, utilities, and all other gas departments
• Comply with PHMSA rules regarding training, fatigue mitigation, and control room management
• Rotating 12-hour shifts days and nights (not Dupont)
• This is an in-person on-site position (not remote)
• Required to follow CRM (control room management plan)
Minimum Requirements:
• Must be knowledgeable in the operation of complex process systems involving liquids and gases - natural gas experience preferred.
• Must be proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Windows, and SCADA.
• Must be able to effectively communicate with field personnel, customers, and management.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• One year of college, vocational training, or equivalent is preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
Special Requirements:
• Shall be able to work rotating shifts, including days, nights, holidays and weekends.
• Overtime may be assigned as per contract.
• Shall complete U.S. Department of Transportation Operator Qualifications.
• Shall be subject to drug testing as required by the U.S Department of Transportation rules governing natural gas system operators.
• Shall promote to the Gas System Controller position within twenty-five (25) months of assuming the Gas System Controller Trainee position, this will be demonstrated by the successful completion of the Gas Controller training program and Gas Control assessment score of 90% or greater.
• Must reside with 40 miles and/or 40 minutes of the Lipan Distribution Center, or willing to relocate.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $36.73 per hour
