Job Description Junior Performance Engineer Enterprise Infrastructure & Performance Assignment Work Arrangement Location 12-month contract; potential conversion On-site Monday-Friday Phoenix, Arizona Position Overview We are seeking a Junior Performance Engineer to help investigate application responsiveness, network behavior, and end-user service issues across enterprise and hybrid-cloud environments. Working alongside experienced engineers and partner teams, this individual will collect technical evidence, analyze traffic patterns, document findings, and support improvements to service reliability. This role is well suited for an early-career network, NOC, infrastructure, application-support, or systems professional who has practical troubleshooting experience and wants to develop deeper expertise in packet analysis and application performance engineering.

Key Responsibilities Collect packet captures and perform guided analysis to help identify latency, retransmissions, packet loss, connection failures, and unusual traffic behavior. Assist with troubleshooting application-layer services such as HTTP/S, APIs, DNS, TLS/SSL, and authentication workflows. Trace traffic across enterprise networks and document the path, symptoms, timing, and likely points of failure.

Support investigations involving Cisco routing and switching, SD-WAN, Direct Internet Access, and hybrid-cloud connectivity. Help troubleshoot performance and connection issues affecting Azure ExpressRoute-supported services. Work with network, cloud, infrastructure, operations, and application teams to gather evidence and validate corrective actions.

Support incident-response activities, maintain accurate technical notes, and contribute to root-cause documentation. Collect baseline measurements, monitor performance trends, and escalate material changes or recurring issues. Build knowledge through documented procedures, lab work, peer review, and hands-on troubleshooting assignments.

Required Qualifications Foundational professional experience in a NOC, network support, infrastructure support, systems support, application support, or similar technical environment. Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching, and common network-troubleshooting concepts. Exposure to packet-capture tools such as Wireshark or tcpdump and the ability to interpret basic traffic flows.

Basic understanding of HTTP/S, TLS/SSL, APIs, and client-server application behavior. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and willingness to work through issues methodically. Ability to document technical findings clearly and collaborate with more experienced engineers and cross-functional teams.

Ability to work on-site in Phoenix, Arizona, Monday through Friday. Preferred Qualifications One to three years of experience in network operations, infrastructure, application support, or performance troubleshooting. Exposure to Cisco networking, SD-WAN, Direct Internet Access, or Azure ExpressRoute.

Familiarity with monitoring, observability, or application performance tools. PowerShell, Python, or other basic scripting experience. Associate or bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, networking, cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Network+, CCNA, Azure Fundamentals, or another relevant entry-level certification. Assignment Details This is a 12-month contract assignment with the possibility of conversion to a permanent position. The role requires on-site work in Phoenix, Arizona, Monday through Friday.

Conversion is not guaranteed and will depend on business needs, performance, and position availability.
