Job description

The Lead Observability Engineer drives the strategy, design, and hands-on implementation of observability across all Real-Time Collections squads. The role focuses on measuring and optimising customer experience of exchange data, embedding observability as a core engineering practice within applications and builds, and providing guidance and expert consultancy throughout the development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the implementation of the Real-Time Unified Observability roadmap for Real-Time Collections and Contributions. Laser-focused on ensuring customer experience is measurable, visible, and continuously improved.
  • Hands on C++ Development in a low-latency environment
  • Work hands-on with Collections squads to embed "Observability as a Practice" throughout the software development lifecycle. Support and encourage engineers to observe their software throughout Dev, Test, PPE and Prod.
  • Guide teams in building customer-centric SLIs and insight dashboards that reflect timeliness, completeness, accuracy, and stability of market data.
  • Establish repeatable GitOps/API-driven workflows for observability assets within build pipelines, ensuring consistent deployment and versioning.
  • Influence platform architecture and reliability decisions across Collections, ensuring observability considerations are baked into design early.

Requirements:
  • Base technical proficiency in C++ in order to engage with full-time developers.
  • Deep experience with observability engineering such as distributed tracing, and real-time metrics pipelines.
  • Excellent leadership skills: able to coach teams, influence engineering culture, and drive cross-team alignment.
  • Strong analytical mindset for diagnosing complex distributed-system behaviours and customer impact.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to simplify system performance concepts for broader stakeholders.

Preferred:
  • Strong background in SLI/SLO design, especially for latency-sensitive or market data systems
  • Ability to design and deliver end-to-end telemetry solutions across multiple teams and services
  • Skilled in cloud-native, containerized, and Kubernetes environments
  • Proficiency with API- and GitOps-based workflows, config-as-code, and automated telemetry promotion.
  • Experience with eBPF diagnostic capabilities like tracing, network performance and app profiling.
