Overview

Investment Banking is a technology-driven business powered by highly reliable, scalable, and automated platforms. We are seeking a highly technical Platform Engineering & Site Reliability Engineering Vice President to join the Investment Banking Chief Technology Office (IB CTO) team in Cary, NC.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role focused on designing, building, and evolving cloud-native platform capabilities that enable application teams to deliver resilient, scalable, and observable services at scale. The successful candidate will combine deep expertise in Kubernetes, cloud platforms, automation, observability, and software engineering to improve platform reliability and developer productivity across the Investment Banking technology landscape.

You will work directly with engineering teams to implement SRE principles, develop shared platform services, automate operational processes, and build self-service capabilities that reduce complexity and accelerate software delivery. This role requires significant hands-on technical contribution alongside leadership and mentoring responsibilities.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design, development, and evolution of cloud-native platform capabilities supporting critical Investment Banking applications across GCP and hybrid environments.
  • Engineer scalable, resilient Kubernetes-based platforms and shared services that improve application reliability, performance, and developer productivity.
  • Develop and implement Infrastructure-as-Code, GitOps, and automation solutions using Terraform, ArgoCD, and modern CI/CD practices to enable consistent, self-service deployments.
  • Build and enhance observability capabilities through monitoring, logging, tracing, and telemetry frameworks that provide actionable insights into platform and application health.
  • Partner with application engineering teams to establish and implement SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and reliability engineering practices across distributed systems.
  • Contribute hands-on to platform tooling, automation frameworks, cloud infrastructure, and reliability solutions while driving continuous improvements in scalability, resiliency, security, and cost efficiency.

How You'll Lead

  • Lead through technical expertise, architectural influence, and hands-on contribution to strategic platform engineering initiatives.
  • Mentor engineers on cloud-native architecture, Kubernetes, SRE principles, observability, and infrastructure automation best practices.
  • Collaborate with application development, cloud, and infrastructure teams to embed reliability, automation, and engineering excellence throughout the software delivery lifecycle.

Skills You'll Need

  • Deep hands-on experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems using modern SRE and Platform Engineering principles.
  • Expert knowledge of GCP services, Kubernetes (GKE), containerization, networking, security, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Strong software engineering and automation experience using Python, Go, Java, or similar languages to develop platform tooling and operational automation.
  • Extensive experience implementing Infrastructure-as-Code with Terraform, GitOps deployment models, and CI/CD automation pipelines.
  • Advanced expertise in observability engineering, including monitoring, logging, distributed tracing, telemetry, and performance optimization.
  • Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, optimize workflows to solve business problems, while applying critical judgment to ensure responsible and ethical use of data and AI outputs

Skills That Will Help You Excel

  • Deep understanding of distributed systems architecture, fault tolerance, scalability patterns, and reliability engineering practices.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex production challenges through data-driven analysis and systematic problem solving.
  • Experience building internal developer platforms and self-service capabilities that improve engineering efficiency and software delivery outcomes.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence technical strategy across global engineering teams.
  • Experience working within highly regulated environments, preferably financial services, with an understanding of security, risk, and compliance considerations

Expectations

It is the Bank's expectation that employees hired into this role will work in the Cary

office in accordance with the Bank's hybrid working model.

The salary range for this position in Cary is $125,000 to $185,000.Actual salaries may be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's skill set, experience, education, work location and other qualifications.
