What are some common challenges faced by Entry Level NX Designers when transitioning from academic projects to real-world engineering environments?

Entry Level NX Designers often find the transition from academic work to professional settings challenging due to stricter deadlines, the need to adhere to established company design standards, and the complexity of working on larger, collaborative projects. Unlike academic assignments, real-world projects may require frequent revisions based on feedback from engineers, manufacturing teams, and quality assurance. Additionally, new designers must quickly become comfortable with version control systems and effective communication within cross-functional teams to ensure design intent is maintained throughout the development process.

What are Entry Level NX Designers?

Entry Level NX Designers are professionals who use Siemens NX, a powerful 3D CAD software, to create and modify product designs, parts, and assemblies. At the entry level, these designers typically assist in drafting, modeling, and revising engineering drawings under the supervision of senior engineers or designers. They work in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing, and are responsible for ensuring that their designs meet project specifications and industry standards. Entry Level NX Designers usually have a background in mechanical engineering, industrial design, or a related field, and are proficient in using NX software.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level NX Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level NX Designer, you need a foundational understanding of mechanical design principles, 3D modeling, and a relevant degree in engineering or design. Proficiency with Siemens NX CAD software and familiarity with PLM systems are typically required, and certifications in NX or CAD can be advantageous. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication set candidates apart in collaborative environments. These skills ensure accurate product designs, efficient workflows, and successful project outcomes in competitive engineering fields.

Job description

What Youโ€™ll Do:

Itโ€™s in the name, Scaled Composites. For a variety of reasons, Scaled typically builds our airplanes out of composite materials. And the skillset to design structures out of composites is unique. But then again, so are we. The work of this role typically starts with an outer mold line (OML) and a set of high-level requirements. From there, the composite design engineer develops a structural concept, defines detailed requirements, and sets about designing and analyzing a structure that meets the needs of the airplane. While there will be a fair share of brackets and door handles, this role will typically own a significant chunk of the structure required of the program. This will vary based on size and complexity, but responsibility for the wing, fuselage, empennage, cabin, or even all of the above is likely.

Category: Engineering

Location: Mojave, CA

Citizenship Required: United States Citizenship
