Job description

Overview

The Associate Mission Critical (MC) Engineer is an entry-level electrical engineering position responsible for supporting the design, documentation, and manufacture of custom electrical control panels, switchboards, and power distribution equipment. This role provides hands-on training in electrical design, drafting, manufacturing processes, and applicable industry codes and standards.

The Associate MC Engineer works under the direction of senior engineers to transform customer specifications, engineering drawings, and project requirements into complete manufacturing drawing packages suitable for production within a UL 508A panel shop and UL 891 switchboard manufacturing environment.

This position is intended for recent graduates or early-career electrical engineers seeking practical experience in the design of industrial control panels and power distribution equipment while developing the technical skills required for long-term success within Quality Electrical Systems.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering and Drafting
  • Develop manufacturing drawing packages from customerprovided documentation.
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Produce panel layouts and enclosure arrangements.
  • Develop bills of material (BOMs) for manufacturing and procurement.
  • Generate wiring diagrams, terminal schedules, and device lists.
  • Assist with equipment selection and component application.
  • Incorporate customer comments and engineering revisions into project documentation.
  • Manufacturing Support
  • Support production personnel with drawing interpretation and technical questions.
  • Participate in design reviews to improve manufacturability and standardization.
  • Verify drawings accurately reflect shop construction methods and standards.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving productionrelated design issues.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings and manufacturing reviews.
  • Code Compliance
  • Learn and apply applicable electrical codes and standards, including: oUL 508A
  • UL 891 oNational Electrical Code (NEC)
  • Customer specifications and project requirements
  • Assist with compliance reviews and documentation.
  • Support engineering efforts during UL and NRTL inspections.
  • Training and Development

    During the first 18–36 months, the Associate MC Engineer will develop proficiency in the following areas:

    Manufacturing Experience
  • Handson electrical panel assembly and wiring.
  • Understanding shop fabrication processes and workflows.
  • Interpretation of production drawings and assembly documentation.
  • Familiarity with common industrial electrical components and equipment.
  • Design Software
  • AutoCAD Electrical training through formal coursework and/or handson project work.
  • Development of electrical schematics, panel layouts, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Familiarity with company drafting standards and document control procedures.
  • Codes and Standards
  • Introduction to UL 508A requirements.
  • Introduction to UL 891 requirements.
  • Introduction to NEC requirements relevant to industrial control panels and power distribution equipment.
  • Understanding of component listings, recognition, and application requirements.

    Knowledge and Experience Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 03 years of electrical engineering experience.
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits and power distribution systems.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Internship or coop experience in manufacturing, controls, power systems, or electrical design.
  • Familiarity with industrial electrical equipment and construction methods.
  • Interest in electrical power distribution, switchboards, and industrial control panels.
  • Physical Requirements
