Job description

SUMMARY

Under immediate supervision, performs routine computer-aided drafting, technical support functions and develops basic fabrication concepts while conforming to the company’s quality systems as documented.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Researches and retrieves information for department members
  • Keeps abreast of current design practices and procedures
  • Performs shop and field data collection
  • Interfaces with Design Engineers and project managers to maintain current and best programming/machining practices
  • Participates in project reviews to obtain special manufacturing requirements
  • Updates, revises and produces programs, tool lists and job set-up sheets for machine shop.
  • Work closely with machine operators, fabrication personnel, project managers and other machine programmers to ensure that programs are made to run as smooth and efficiently as possible.
  • Researches the feasibility and capability of various projects
  • Provides technical solutions and recommendations to assist production and assembly
  • Develops plans for assembly, machine, tooling and fixture design
  • Prepares mechanical calculations for design requirements
  • Prepares fluid mechanics and fluid dynamics calculations for design requirements
  • Interprets customer specification, codes and calculations
  • Produces detailed drawing per company standards
  • Updates, devises and reproduces drawings
  • Produces detailed technical submittal documents in support of assigned projects
  • Interfaces with production to maintain current and best fabrication practices
  • Researches, specifies, recommends and commissions manufacturing equipment

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree (BS) or equivalent; and a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Design Engineer. Strong Project Engineer and manufacturing background desired.

SKILLS and ABILITIES

The ability to generate, read and interpret drawings.  One must have the fundamental knowledge and skills associated with drafting /detailing including third-angle projection, section views, auxiliary views, general dimensioning and notation.  General knowledge of fabrication processes and welding is desired.   One must possess strong computer knowledge and be familiar with standard desktop software in addition to SolidWorks or other drafting/modeling software. Experience with equipment design, mechanical and electrical systems.
