Mechanical Design Engineer (1099 Contractor) – Siemens NX


Applied Design Corporation is seeking to identify one or two experienced Mechanical Design Engineers to support an anticipated defense-related engineering program. We are building a small team of highly capable CAD professionals that we intend to propose to our customer for upcoming contract work.


This opportunity is contingent upon customer approval, but we are looking to establish relationships now with experienced engineers who can help anchor this program from day one and become trusted members of our extended engineering team.


What You'll Do


Successful candidates will provide mechanical design and CAD support using Siemens NX for a defense-related engineering project. While the exact scope of work will be determined by customer needs, responsibilities may include:


  • Mechanical part and assembly modeling
  • Manufacturing and fabrication drawings
  • GD&T implementation and drawing detailing
  • Design modifications and engineering change support
  • Collaboration with customer engineering teams
  • Supporting projects within an ITAR-controlled environment


Required Qualifications


  • Demonstrated professional experience using Siemens NX (minimum 3 years required)
  • Mechanical design experience in a professional engineering environment
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing methods, and engineering drawings
  • Experience creating production-ready CAD models and documentation
  • U.S. Citizen, eligible to work on ITAR-controlled projects
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently
  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industries
  • Strong GD&T experience


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with EWIS / Electrical harness design
  • Experience with aircraft door, landing gear, deployment mechanisms, etc.
  • Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) environments
  • Experience working as an engineering consultant or contractor


Work Arrangement


  • 1099 Independent Contractor
  • Hybrid preferred, open to full remote.
  • Anticipated full-time workload, subject to customer demand
  • Initial engagement expected to be 3+ months, with potential for extension
  • Daytime availability during standard business hours
