As of Jun 9, 2026, the average yearly pay for entry level mcse in the United States is $50,083.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $35,000.00 and $52,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Entry Level Mcse position, and why are they important?

To excel as an Entry Level MCSE (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert), you should possess a foundational understanding of Windows Server administration, networking concepts, and IT troubleshooting, typically backed by a relevant IT degree or MCSE certification. Familiarity with Microsoft technologies such as Active Directory, Exchange Server, and virtualization tools is common for the role. Strong problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication skills help individuals excel in troubleshooting and supporting end-users or colleagues. These competencies are essential for maintaining reliable IT infrastructure and facilitating smooth business operations.

What types of projects and daily tasks can I expect as an Entry Level MCSE?

As an Entry Level MCSE, your typical day often involves supporting end-users, managing user accounts in Active Directory, monitoring server performance, and assisting with network administration tasks. You may help with deploying software updates, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and performing routine maintenance on servers and workstations. Many entry-level roles also provide opportunities to shadow senior IT professionals on larger infrastructure projects, allowing you to gain hands-on experience and develop your technical skills. Collaboration with helpdesk teams and other IT staff is common, ensuring a supportive environment for learning and growth as you start your career in IT administration.

What is an Entry Level MCSE job?

An Entry Level MCSE (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert) job is a role for individuals who have recently earned their MCSE certification and are starting their careers in IT. These positions typically involve system administration, network management, and troubleshooting Microsoft-based environments. Responsibilities may include configuring servers, monitoring system performance, and supporting end-users. Employers seek candidates with basic IT experience, strong problem-solving skills, and knowledge of Microsoft technologies. This role serves as a stepping stone to more advanced IT positions such as Systems Administrator or Network Engineer.

Is the MCSE still valid?

The Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) certification was retired in 2021 and replaced by role-based certifications. While existing MCSE certifications remain valid for recertification purposes, they are no longer issued, and employers may prefer candidates with current, role-specific certifications like Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect or Security Engineer. For entry-level roles, gaining updated certifications and skills in cloud computing and network security is recommended.
