Job Description
College Intern - Marketing & Customer Engagement
Join OCTA's Marketing team as a College Intern and gain hands-on experience supporting community outreach, marketing campaigns, and digital content initiatives that promote public transportation programs across Orange County. In this role, you will assist with event coordination, content development, website updates, and marketing analysis to help engage the public and enhance awareness of OCTA's services. You will contribute to both in-person outreach efforts and digital marketing activities, supporting initiatives that connect communities to accessible and reliable transportation.
Under direct supervision, you will perform a variety of professional entry-level duties related to your major field of study and the sponsoring department's current business operations. As a College Intern, you will be exposed to OCTA's career opportunities in the transportation industry. You will gain deeper awareness of transportation's many facets through your OCTA orientation, projects and teams, and internal networking.
OCTA's College Intern Program is a year-round paid student/intern program. You will gain real world work experience on meaningful projects under the guidance of a transportation professional. You will have the opportunity to use problem solving, communication and decision-making skills as you gain valuable work experience. You will also work with a mentor and benefit from career counseling.
The pay range is from $20.00 - $23.00 per hour depending on your education level. This position is not eligible for employee benefits. The work schedule will consist of approximately 20 hours a week, not to exceed 1,000 hours within a continuous 12-month period.
This posting will remain open until a candidate is selected.
What You'll Do
  • Support OCTA's community outreach efforts by representing the agency at events and assisting with related promotional activities.
  • Provide general event and program support, including preparation of materials and post-activity documentation.
  • Help maintain marketing resources and materials to ensure readiness for public engagement activities.
  • Assist with updating and maintaining content on OCTA's website and supports digital campaigns.
  • Research and analyze marketing initiatives to help evaluate performance and provide recommendations.
  • Contribute ideas for marketing content and assists with creative production projects.
  • Provide occasional support for social media and other promotional efforts as needed.

What We're Looking For
  • Currently enrolled full-time college student (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior) at an accredited two- or four-year college or university
  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Advertising, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and creativity.
  • Experience or interest in community outreach, event coordination, or public engagement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with Canva or similar design tools preferred.
  • Familiarity with website content updates, social media platforms, or digital marketing concepts is a plus.
  • Ability to research and analyze marketing initiatives and contribute ideas for improvement.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Professional, team-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to supporting events and campaigns.
