Position Overview:
Ascot U.S. is looking for an Underwriter to join our Private and Non-Profit team based in our New York office. The Underwriter is responsible for profitably growing our private company and nonprofit management liability book.
Responsibilities:
  • Underwrite new and renewal Management Liability business for private companies and non-profit organizations.
  • Analyze financial statements, operations, governance structures, and loss experience.
  • Evaluate D&O, EPL, Fiduciary, Crime, and related management liability exposures.
  • Develop and maintain wholesale broker and client relationships and manage distribution within assigned territories.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, conditions, retentions, and coverage enhancements.
  • Monitor portfolio profitability and underwriting performance.
  • Collaborate with claims, actuarial, legal, and product development teams to ensure that the products are performing as designed, that we have a ground-up view of the loss scenarios, and take appropriate remediation action as needed
  • Maintain underwriting documentation and comply with underwriting authority guidelines.
  • Manage underwriting production with integrity, focusing on profitability and across a range of management liability insurance products
  • Use internally generated, and third-party data to improve the productivity of the group and our customer service
  • Conduct marketplace research to develop underwriting tools that will assist in improving the portfolio

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • A minimum of 2 years of Management Liability or Financial Lines underwriting or broker experience
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partners
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • An ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions.
  • High energy self-starter, who is resilient and has an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Demonstration of solid time, organizational, and desk management skills
  • Wholesale broker experience preferred but not required
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Detail oriented with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit and a can-do attitude
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, buildout environment
  • Commitment to underwrite profitably and providing stellar customer service
  • General understanding of, and ability to analyze internal and audited Financial Statements

Compensation
Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to experience, subject matter expertise, and skills. The base pay is just one component of Ascot's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual cash bonus, and other forms of discretionary compensation awarded by the Company.
The annualized base pay range for this role is: $90,000 - $100,000
