Description
Artheon is seeking talented professionals to join our growing team in support of diverse engineering and environmental projects. Whether your background is in civil engineering, environmental science, or infrastructure design, this is a great opportunity to contribute to meaningful work in a collaborative and innovative environment.
About Artheon
Artheon is a trusted engineering and consulting firm offering services that rival large organizations while maintaining the personalized client relationships of a boutique firm. With expertise spanning civil/site engineering, environmental permitting, transportation infrastructure, construction management, and advanced surveying technologies, we are committed to delivering high-quality, timely solutions to local, state, and federal clients.
About This Role
This position is part of Artheon's long-term growth strategy to build a strong engineering team. We hire early-career engineers, invest in their professional development, and promote from within. As an Associate Engineer, you will build foundational engineering skills while gaining exposure to a broad range of municipal engineering disciplines, including stormwater management, transportation, water and wastewater, and municipal infrastructure.
Based in our Camden, NJ office, you will work alongside experienced engineers on progressively more complex assignments, developing technical expertise through structured mentorship and hands-on project experience. You'll gain an understanding of how projects move from planning and municipal review through design, construction, and completion.
If you are curious, detail-oriented, and interested in understanding how engineering decisions shape communities, this role offers an excellent foundation for your career.
Responsibilities
Municipal Review & Technical Analysis
  • Review site plans, subdivision and land development applications, and capital improvement projects for compliance with municipal ordinances, standards, and regulations.
  • Support Planning Board and Zoning Board reviews by preparing technical comments, memoranda, and reports.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with municipal boards, applicants, inspectors, contractors, and internal team members.

Engineering & Design
  • Assist with the design of municipal infrastructure projects, including stormwater management systems, roadway and traffic improvements, and water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Prepare engineering plans, technical specifications, and CAD drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar software.
  • Perform engineering calculations and technical analyses under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Contribute to project documentation and design deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.

Field & Construction Experience
  • Visit project sites to observe construction activities, review field conditions, and support site inspections.
  • Coordinate with inspectors and contractors to better understand how engineering designs are implemented in the field.
  • Support construction-phase activities and gain practical experience resolving engineering challenges during project execution.

Team Collaboration & Professional Development
  • Work closely with experienced engineers, including recently licensed Professional Engineers (PEs) as well as seasoned professionals, who provide day-to-day guidance and mentorship.
  • Work closely with project stakeholders, including municipal and county administrators, State and County review agencies, residents, and community-based organizations.
  • Progress through increasingly complex project assignments as your technical knowledge and responsibilities grow.
  • Participate in Artheon's peer mentoring program and professional development initiatives

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or plans to sit for the EIT exam.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to participate confidently in public meetings.
  • Demonstrated interest in municipal engineering.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Internship or co-op experience in civil or municipal engineering.
  • Familiarity with municipal infrastructure, stormwater management, transportation, traffic engineering, or water and wastewater projects.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar engineering design software.

Benefits
The base salary range for this role is indicated in the posting. This range reflects the company's good faith estimate of the compensation for this position at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and geographic location.
