Position Summary

Old Sturbridge Village is seeking a dependable, motivated General Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities team. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work and wants to build a career in facilities maintenance and the skilled trades.

You'll work alongside experienced maintenance professionals and the Mechanical Systems Manager, learning valuable skills while helping maintain one of New England's most unique historic campuses. If you're mechanically inclined, eager to learn, and willing to jump in wherever needed, we'd love to meet you.

Responsibilities

General Maintenance

• Perform general building maintenance throughout the campus
• Clear clogged sinks and drains
• Clean HVAC equipment, replace filters, and install belts
• Assist licensed contractors and in-house tradespeople with maintenance projects
• Deliver mail and supplies to departments across campus
• Maintain personal hand tools and properly use Village-owned power tools
• Respond to after-hours emergency maintenance calls when needed

Safety & Campus Support

• Maintain safe, clean work areas
• Help preserve the appearance and functionality of museum buildings and grounds
• Provide courteous, professional interactions with museum guests
• Identify and report potential safety hazards
• Follow all Village safety policies and procedures
• Complete additional duties assigned by the Facilities Manager

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Valid driver's license
• Comfortable using basic hand and power tools
• Strong work ethic with a willingness to learn new skills
• Reliable, dependable, and able to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred

• Experience in:
• • General maintenance
  • Facilities maintenance
  • Groundskeeping
  • Construction or a related trade
• Additional trade certifications or licenses are a plus but not required

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand and walk for extended periods, including on uneven terrain
• Climb ladders and work safely at elevated heights
• Bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach as needed
• Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Occasionally work around dust, fumes, and maintenance materials (PPE provided)
• Maintain awareness while working in an active public museum environment

Schedule

• Monday–Friday
• 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
• Occasional after-hours emergency response as needed
