Job description

This is not a “learn how to practice law from scratch” role.

We are looking for a Family Law Attorney who can step into real litigation responsibility, communicate with clients, manage deadlines, and own cases from strategy through resolution. We like training good people, and we will train you on how Reidy Law Office does things. But this is not an entry-level attorney position. The right candidate already understands litigation responsibility, client communication, deadlines, preparation, negotiation, and case ownership. If you want autonomy with structure, client contact, courtroom responsibility, and a team that is serious about doing things a better way, this may be the right seat.

About the Role

You will manage assigned family-law matters, appear in court, communicate with clients, draft pleadings and motions, manage discovery, negotiate settlements, prepare for hearings and trials, and keep cases moving forward.

This role is for an attorney who can own a file — not just handle isolated tasks. You will have support from paralegals, legal assistants, and other attorneys, but you will remain responsible for legal strategy, client communication, deadlines, case progress, and major decisions on your assigned matters.

We are a systems-driven firm. That means we use procedures, checklists, case-management tools, task systems, and clear communication standards. If you like a structure that helps attorneys do better work, you may thrive here. If you prefer to wing it, rely on memory, or avoid systems, this probably is not the right fit.

What Success Looks Like

A successful Family Law Attorney at Reidy Law Office will:

  • Meet or exceed 1,400 billable hours annually.
  • Manage an active family-law caseload, generally around 30+ matters depending on complexity.
  • Maintain timely client communication and strong client satisfaction.
  • Keep assigned files updated, organized, and moving forward.
  • Complete court checklists, case tasks, deadlines, and follow-ups without constant reminders.
  • Enter time contemporaneously.
  • Prepare thoroughly for court, negotiations, hearings, and trial.
  • Use Firm systems and procedures consistently.
  • Work well with paralegals, legal assistants, attorneys, and Firm leadership.
  • Demonstrate Teamwork, Results, Integrity, Better Way, and Excellence.
Compensation:

$120,000 - $175,000 yearly

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage family law cases from initial consultation through resolution, ensuring each step aligns with our firm's standards.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, providing clear guidance and updates to build trust and confidence.
  • Draft, review, and file legal documents, including pleadings and motions, with precision and attention to detail.
  • Represent clients in court, advocating passionately and strategically to achieve favorable outcomes.
  • Collaborate with paralegals and legal assistants, fostering a supportive and efficient team environment.
  • Conduct thorough discovery processes, ensuring all relevant information is gathered and analyzed.
  • Negotiate settlements with opposing counsel, aiming for resolutions that best serve clients' interests and needs.

Qualifications:
  • Experience in family law, with a focus on divorce cases, to effectively represent and advocate for clients.
  • Ability to navigate court proceedings and negotiations with professionalism and empathy.
  • Proven track record of drafting, reviewing, and finalizing legal documents in compliance with Illinois family law.
  • Strong communication skills to provide clear, compassionate guidance to clients during challenging times.
  • Commitment to staying updated on legal trends and changes in family law to maintain our firm's competitive edge.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team, contributing to a supportive and respectful work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple cases efficiently, ensuring timely and accurate legal representation.
