IBM i Operations Administrator

Location: Yardley, PA

Department: Information Services

Reports to: Manager of Enterprise Systems & IBM i Operations

Position Summary

Crown is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated entry-level IBM i Operations Administrator to join our Corporate Information Services team. This position is ideal for a recent college graduate with an Information Systems or IT-related degree who is interested in building a long-term career supporting IBM i (AS/400) systems.

This role is designed as a training and development opportunity. The successful candidate will receive hands-on, on-the-job training from experienced IBM i professionals and will gradually take on operational responsibilities supporting IBM i systems and Power Systems infrastructure. We are looking for someone with a solid IT foundation, strong curiosity, and a desire to learn enterprise operations in a mission-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in day-to-day IBM i system operations under the guidance of senior administrators.
  • Learn to monitor system performance, job activity, and system health to ensure availability and reliability.
  • Assist with routine operational tasks such as system checks, backups, and scheduled jobs.
  • Support user administration activities, including profiles, permissions, and access requests.
  • Gain hands-on exposure to system maintenance activities such as PTFs, upgrades, and hardware support.
  • Work with cross-functional IT teams to support business applications and operational needs.
  • Learn and follow Crown's IT security, compliance, and change management processes.
  • Document procedures, runbooks, and operational tasks as part of knowledge sharing.
  • Provide first-level support for IBM i-related incidents while developing troubleshooting skills.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and internship experience).
  • Strong interest in enterprise systems, infrastructure, and operations roles.
  • Foundational understanding of IT concepts such as operating systems, networking, and system administration.
  • Willingness and eagerness to learn IBM i (AS/400) technologies in a production environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a desire to understand how systems work.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

Note: Prior IBM i experience is not required. This role is intended to provide on-the-job training for candidates with the right attitude, aptitude, and IT foundation.

Preferred:

  • Internship, co-op, or academic exposure to enterprise IT environments or data centers.
  • Basic familiarity with any of the following concepts or tools:
    • Command-line interfaces or scripting
