Summary
The Systems Engineer I is responsible for handling projects involving maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrading of all corporate computing environments, including but not limited to, infrastructure server environments, user computing environments, applications, server hardware, and knowledge of corporate network architecture. They are expected to integrate into an infrastructure team with 40% operational support and 60% planned project work. They will work to position the organization for success, improving efficiency, accuracy, and compliance while increasing business responsiveness, improving security posture, and supporting aggressive growth.
Compensation
$75K - $80K yearly salary + 8% yearly bonus target.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining operating systems, application software and systems management tools. Expertise in managing an Active Directory domain, implement group policies, email support for Office365 environment; Installation and deployment of servers based on HP server platform, including blade servers, virtual connect; SAN and NAS knowledge
  • Build / Rack, configure, and harden physical and virtual servers (Windows and Linux)
  • Administer Windows Domain services (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, etc.)
  • Manage and monitor installed systems and VMware infrastructure
  • Configure load balancing for web and application pools
  • Understand and configure AWS cloud infrastructure using EC2 and VPC
  • Proactively ensures the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions and work with developers to implement those fixes
  • Maintain security backup and redundancy strategies
  • Provide technical user-level support to all departments connected to the network, including support of thin clients and Citrix virtual desktop environment, Strong VMware knowledge
  • Application support including but not limited to SQL, IIS, SMTP, FTP, SNMP
  • Knowledge of network appliances, including network monitoring application such as Solarwinds Orion NPM, Zabbix
  • Knowledge of backup application such as HP Data Protector, Veeam
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with end users, vendors, and managers
  • Identify and resolve hardware and software problems
  • Define user needs and recommend alternatives
  • Ensure proper logging for all systems
  • Integrate systems into monitoring tools
  • Understand basic to moderate networking fundamentals
  • Adhere to information security principles and best practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline such as computer science, information services or related field, or certification
  • 1-2 years plus of experience in a network environment troubleshooting systems

Working Conditions
