Job description

Los Angeles, CA law firm is seeking an experienced full time Personal Injury Lien Negotiator

A growing plaintiff-side personal injury law firm is seeking an experienced Personal Injury Lien Negotiator to join its settlement team. This role is responsible for negotiating medical liens, provider balances, and other case-related expenses to maximize clients' net settlement recoveries. The ideal candidate has prior experience in a personal injury law firm, possesses exceptional negotiation skills, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience negotiating medical liens and settlement reductions within a personal injury law firm or settlement department.

  • Strong understanding of personal injury settlements, medical billing, lien resolution, and the disbursement process.

  • Demonstrated success negotiating with medical providers, lienholders, collection agencies, and other third parties.

  • Experience with Filevine or similar legal case management software strongly preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify billing discrepancies and resolve complex lien issues.

  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys, case managers, and accounting staff.

  • Spanish fluency is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate reductions of medical liens, provider balances, letters of protection, and outstanding medical bills for settled personal injury cases.

  • Review settlement statements, medical expenses, and case documentation to develop effective negotiation strategies.

  • Communicate directly with medical providers, billing departments, lienholders, collection agencies, and other third parties to secure favorable reductions.

  • Obtain written confirmation of negotiated lien reductions and final balances while maintaining accurate documentation.

  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in medical bills, liens, and settlement-related expenses.

  • Maintain regular follow-up with providers and lienholders to ensure timely completion of negotiations.

  • Accurately document negotiations, communications, and supporting records within the firm's case management system.

  • Collaborate closely with attorneys, settlement coordinators, case managers, and accounting personnel to facilitate efficient case disbursement.

  • Manage a high-volume caseload while consistently meeting internal deadlines and maintaining exceptional attention to detail.

  • Escalate complex or disputed lien matters to attorneys when additional legal intervention is required.
