As a library assistant for our Jacaranda Library, you will stand as the direct point of contact for customers, resolving routine questions or problems, and referring more complex issues when necessary. All employees participate in setting unit, library, and system goals, contribute to decision making, and evaluate the team's progress.

About the Position

  • Implement standards of service that ensure the prompt and efficient resolution of each inquiry by customers.
  • Assist at all library service locations and stations.
  • Offer directional and service-related information to users.
  • Assist library users in person, by phone, or electronically.
  • Serve in material checkout/check-in, retrieve and process reserves, billing, and missing items.
  • Perform routine equipment cleaning and maintenance.
  • Sort and shelf materials and maintain an orderly arrangement of materials.
  • Aid in operating and basic troubleshooting of automated materials check-in, emptying and swapping materials bins, and routine maintenance.

About the Schedule

  • Part-time, 20 hours per week.
  • Must be available, Monday - Saturday: 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
  • This location is not currently open on Sundays; however, this is subject to change.
  • Work schedules may vary due to split shifts, rotations, on-call, emergencies, etc.

About You

  • Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in a clerical or customer service environment, preferably in a library setting.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for five (5) years.

Fingerprint Screening: This position is subject to a mandatory fingerprint-based background check in accordance with applicable federal, state, and/or local laws. The screening will be used to verify criminal history and other relevant information as permitted by law. An applicant who fails to pass a required screening may be disqualified from employment.

Starting Pay Rate: $19.09/hr
