What you will be doing:

As the IT Project Manager, you'll play an important role in supporting the Department of Health’s Portfolio Management Office by helping keep technology projects organized, on schedule, and clearly communicated. In this role, you'll work closely with project managers, contractors, and IT staff to gather information, coordinate meetings, and ensure project details stay current. You'll also help new project requests get properly defined and move smoothly through the department’s governance process.

In addition to supporting the broader portfolio, you will lead assigned IT projects using standard project management practices, making sure progress, risks, and updates are communicated clearly and regularly. This is a collaborative position that helps strengthen consistent project management across the department and contributes to successful technology outcomes.

The working environment you can expect:

The Department of Health IT has offices in Juneau and Anchorage, and IT PMO staff currently work in a hybrid telework model, though this may change in the future. This role balances independent work with collaboration, connecting with team members, department staff, and vendors through in‑person, phone, and virtual communication.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Training ininformation technology, project management, or a similar field or professional experience working in technical project teams alongside business and product owners to identify, prioritize, and adjust project scope, schedule, and budgets.

Special Note:

Some positions may require the incumbent to have/obtain and maintain project management certification such as Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP), or in some combination of Lean/Six Sigma/AGILE, CompTIA Project+, MPM, Waterfall, or similar project management methodologies and curricula. These requirements will be specified in the recruitment bulletin and supporting position description.
