General Description:
The Director IT Project Management is responsible for the management and oversight of an IT Project Management Office (PMO) and the portfolio of IT projects for the organization. The IT PMO Director develops and implements PMO processes and policies, directs project management staff, and works with other department leaders and key stakeholders to define, prioritize, and develop projects and programs. They direct and oversee the Project Management Office (PMO) to ensure IT programs and projects meet organization goals and requirements. Additionally, the IT PMO Director is responsible and accountable for the selection and implementation of tools to be used to organize and report on project work. The incumbent will develop, implement, and refine the intake and prioritization processes necessary for the efficient and effective operations of the IT PMO, ensuring IT projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Leads the IT project management team in the efficient and effective delivery of IT PMO services (governance decision making, benefits realization, intake and estimation, portfolio management, and resource management) to the organization.
  • Utilizes a deep understanding of technical environments in a multi-organizational matrixed environment and working knowledge of application functionality in a healthcare environment.
  • Identifies and recommends applicable technology, as appropriate, by listening to and working with multiple entities and departments.
  • Apprises supervisor and CIO of status of project portfolio on a regular basis (weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly).
  • Develops project portfolio statuses aimed at communicating the overall health of the IT project portfolio to numerous audiences both at a tactical and strategic level.
  • Works with IT Security and Enterprise Privacy and Risk to assure technical solutions are within the Security and Privacy Framework.
  • Stays current on healthcare IT trends and direction.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with operations to identify technology and campus integration for new facility and service line development projects.
  • Works with IT Operations to help develop and monitor standard IT operational metrics based on industry benchmarks.
  • Collaborates with other IT partners, identifies opportunities for improvement, and collaborates with team to create recommendations to CIO.
  • Works with other IT teams to assure compatibility with current and future systems.
  • Identifies any risk items relating to project delivery or budget implications and communicates status to stakeholders and executive leaders.
  • Communicates complex project concepts in a manner that makes it easy for the business community to understand.
  • Understands integration of ancillary applications and their associated functionality.
  • Partners with IT leaders to assure new technologies and applications are operationalized in the IT department.
  • Leads the analysis, selection, and roll-out of PMO tools that enable the integrated delivery model.
  • Works with the team to track and monitor the entire portfolio of IT related projects.
  • Develops IT PMO Service Levels and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) by which to measure IT PMO performance.
  • Tracks and presents project portfolio status to CIO and IT Leadership team.
  • Working with operational departments and ensures projects are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Partners with operations to ensure system investments are maximized.
  • Works with the technical and security teams to assure that enterprise security requirements are met.
  • Stays current on industry trends and projections.
  • Communicates with appropriate hospital IT technical support personnel in order to resolve problems in a timely fashion.
  • Assigns project managers to participate in application and technology change board processes.
  • Manages the operational budget to ensure budgetary expectations are met.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
Experience: 8 or more years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years of progressive leadership, required.
License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Project Management Professional issued by Project Management Institute preferred. Scrum Master/Agile certification preferred.
