POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Associate Chemist supports the Fremont factory's commitment to manufacturing safe, high-quality products. be This entry-level role is responsible for performing analytical testing, supporting laboratory compliance systems, and ensuring all analyses meet Nestle standards and regulatory expectations. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Laboratory and Analytical Methods

  • Collect samples from production areas according to established schedules and procedures.
  • Perform routine laboratory analyses on incoming goods, in-process samples, allergens, and finished products.
  • Proficient in carrying out the required analyses according to standard procedures and work instructions following Nestle approved methods.
  • Support the integration of new analytical methods, instruments and technologies.
  • Manage chemical inventory, preparation of reagents and standards, and proper disposal.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare and manage samples for external analysis.  
  • Contribute flexible support to all laboratory areas during peak workload or staffing gaps. 

Data and Documentation

  • Perform peer review of laboratory data.
  • Enter results into digital systems and complete all documentation with precision.
  • Investigate out-of-spec results and promptly report to Quality Leadership.
  • Troubleshoot testing issues, sampling inconsistencies, and instrument abnormalities to ensure proper data reporting.
  • Review and manage reports from external laboratory testing.

Factory Support

  • Collaborate closely with Production, Sanitation, Engineering, and Quality teams to deliver requested laboratory support and outputs.
  • Assist the operations team by providing training and troubleshooting support for analytical testing performed on the production floor.

 

Compliance Systems

  • Adhere to all Nestle, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP0, regulatory, and Occupational Health & Environmental policies and procedures governing laboratory and operational work.
  • Create and revise work instructions.
  • Execute and monitor conformance to laboratory quality monitoring schemes and internal control plans.
  • Participate in internal audits, proficiency testing programs, and method verifications/validations as needed.
  • Support corrective and preventive action (CAPA) investigations.

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, or related field.
  • Basic knowledge of analytical testing, instrumentation, good laboratory practices (GLP) and laboratory safety.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, safe, and audit-ready work environment.
  • Strong attention to consistency, detail and planned schedules.
  • Ability to maintain orderly records, files and documentation.
  • Must exhibit good time management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Promote a cooperative and supportive work environment across laboratory, quality, and crossfunctional groups.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft office applications and able to navigate digital tools.
