California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in the Inland Empire region of Southern California. JOB SUMMARY
The School of Social Work at the Palm Desert Campus seeks a graduate assistant with strong research skills for a project examining food insecurity in the Coachella Valley area, leveraging community-based partnerships to do so. This graduate assistant will work directly with community partners to implement a cross-sectional survey and analyze survey data to further understand the nature of food insecurity in the Coachella Valley. The graduate assistant will play an active role on project teams with university and community partners. Candidates must be able to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines, be well versed in basic research and evaluation strategies, methodologies and analytic approaches, have quality written and oral communication skills, and be able to manage positive relationships with community partners. This position provides the opportunity for conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications. This position will likely last through Summer 2025.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Engaging in outreach and collaboration with community partners

  • Communicating research findings orally and in writing in community and academic settings

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to learn and perform assigned research work; follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with university and community partners
  • Knowledge of community-based research approaches
  • Demonstrated experience in producing high-quality, professional writing and oral communications

Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the university.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current enrollment full or part-time as a graduate student at CSUSB
  • Successful completion of graduate level research methods course
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB (6 units)
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Payroll requirement: Social Security Card

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of community-based research approaches
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines are essential
  • Experience production high-quality, professional written and oral communications
  • Bilingual (Spanish-speaking)

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
