Job description

IAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for an Underwriter within the Commercial Truck Team to support our non-fleet segment out of our Naperville, Illinois or Spring, Texas office. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of risk assessment experience related to auto underwriting, preferably truck (local, intermediate, & long-haul for-hire motor). The title and the salary associated with any offer will reflect the selected candidate's experience and knowledge.
This role works a hybrid schedule that requires working from the office Monday through Wednesday, with the option of working Thursday and Friday remotely. Occasional travel is required.
Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, assess, price, and recommend handling of accounts beyond the agent's granted authority and, if necessary, present the account in collaboration to obtain the authority to approve that specific account.

  • Manage, evaluate, analyze, and assess the book of new and renewal business, making recommendations as to pricing, acceptability, coverage considerations, cancellations, non-renewals, etc., to maximize profitability. This involves interpreting, trending, and developing loss information from prior carriers, analyzing financial information, and preparing governmental and industry reports specifically for each account.

  • Travel, as needed, to work with assigned agents to evaluate submission flow, evaluate account acceptability, and assure the overall profitability of each assigned agents and wholesalers.

  • Calls, corresponds and meets with the assigned agency partners in a manner that maintains open communication for holistic agency management.

  • Provides outstanding customer service.

  • Builds effective working relationships with assigned agency personnel as well as internal company staff.

  • Drives acceptable levels of new business opportunities through effective marketing to assigned agents.

  • Effectively communicates with assigned agents the appropriate level of information to ensure understanding of company direction.

  • Perform other tasks as needed.


Qualifications:
Must Have:

  • Bachelors' degree and atleast two years of experience in commercial Insurance.

  • In lieu of Bachelors' degree andtwo years of experience we will consider candidates that have a high school degree and six years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in managing agents in a given territory.

  • Knowledge of the transportation/Class A trucking insurance Industry.

  • Must possess the ability to creatively utilize coverage features, deductibles, or reinsurance on individual risks to achieve company objectives.

  • Requires strong math aptitude, excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and negotiating skills.

  • Must possess knowledge of various computer programs, internet-based programs, PC literate and working with spreadsheets.

  • To qualify, applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require VISA sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment purposes.

Preferred to Have:

  • CPCU, ARM, or AU industry designations.

  • INS21, 22, and 23 or equivalent.

Compensation:

Please note, that the annual gross salary range associated with this posting is $70,000 - $120,330.
