Position overview: 

The Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) Bureau of Technical Operations (BTO) is seeking to hire an entry level software technician to join our team supporting the Illinois Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT). The DoIT Team at HFS is leading a transformation to modernize the way citizens interact with the State of Illinois agency responsible for providing a wide variety of healthcare and family services/benefits to Illinois residents. This position involves supporting the HFS infrastructure in the Database Management unit. The ideal candidate will be ready to grow and learn in this position. Essential Functions
  • Under immediate supervision, serves as a Software Technician for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) supporting the Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) assisting in performing of professional assignments to support application development within the Bureau of Technical Operations (BTO)
  • Assists in establishing strategies for the implementation of vendor supplied software
  • Assists in conducting system administration and software support for computer software
  • Supports data and library management utilities such as Integrated Data Cluster Access method Services (IDCAMS), IEBCOPY, IEBGENER, SORT, FileManager, etc. utilized by the computer system
  • Receives notification and resolves basic software problems
  • Assists in conducting comprehensive studies on new software packages
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college with course work in computer science, application services, or directly related fields
    OR requires satisfactory completion of an agency sponsored training program
Specialized Skills
  • Requires elementary knowledge of and/or experience with IBM Z/OS mainframe using TSO, JCL and IBM-supplied utilities
  • Requires elementary knowledge of and/or experience with Microsoft, such as Windows, Office, SQL, and SharePoint
Preferred Qualifications
  • Elementary knowledge of IBM Z/OS mainframe using TSO, JCL and IBM-supplied utilities
  • Elementary knowledge of Microsoft, such as Windows, Office, SQL, and SharePoint
  • One (1) year of experience analyzing data
