Administrative Intern

UTHealth Houston Strategy & Business Development is hiring an Administrative Intern to join their team in a full-time capacity for 12 weeks. The intern will work Monday-Friday, 8am – 5pm in the Texas Medical Center (7000 Fannin).

Within the Department of Strategy & Business Development, the Administrative Intern will gain hands-on experience in health system administration, strategic planning, process improvement, and project management in support of broader program initiatives within an academic medical environment. The intern will collaborate with administrative leaders to support the development and execution of project plans, gaining real-world exposure to how strategy and operations intersect to drive initiatives across a complex healthcare system.

To be successful in this position, the intern should have the following:

  • Skills - Business intelligence and data analytics; Data visualization and reporting; Business process analysis and workflow improvement; Familiarity with, or interest in, applying AI tools to business operations

Background

  • Candidates with a business, healthcare administration, or related professional background are strongly preferred
  • Experience with or exposure to, process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement frameworks)
  • Prior project management experience or exposure — this can include formal PM roles, informal project coordination, or academic/team-based project leadership

Position Summary:

The Administrative Intern will gain a comprehensive and immersive learning experience within designated functional areas related to administrative functions (Human Resources, Finance, Business Operations, etc.). The intern will receive practical, hands-on experience through collaboration, participation, and assigned tasks and projects. They will also receive direction, guidance, and mentorship from professionals to effectively carry out activities and assignments.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Participates in tasks, projects, and programs aimed at developing skills and expanding knowledge in specific areas of business.
  • Works collaboratively within the functional area and across the assigned department on key projects and tasks.
  • Attends and completes all training modules, webinars, tours, and other training activities as scheduled.
  • Participates in a mission driven culture of high-quality performance, with a focus on collaboration with others to support short and long-term goals/priorities for the department.
  • Actively participates in monthly community engagement connection events.
  • Learns and adapts to any required technology, demonstrating a commitment to quickly gaining entry-level proficiency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:

Currently enrolled or recent graduate in a Bachelor's degree or higher program with a major in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field. Minimum of 60 credit hours successfully completed by the start of the internship required

None required Available to work 40 hours per week required Able to complete the entirety of the internship as determined by the department required Previous office environment experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code §51.215 and Texas Government Code §411.094. To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code §117.001(2), the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position. Personnel in such positions, and similarly situated state contractors, will be routinely reviewed to determine whether things such as criminal history or continuous connections to the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the applicant, employee, or contractor from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.
