Overview
The Concrete Finisher is an essential role in our concrete operations. This position is responsible for smoothing and finishing surfaces of poured concrete sidewalks, curbs, and other surfaces to specified textures by performing the following duties.
What you will do:
- Signals concrete deliverer to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete.
- Moves discharge chute of truck to direct concrete into forms.
- Spreads concrete into inaccessible sections of forms with rake or shovel.
- Levels concrete to specified depth and workable consistency, with handheld screed and floats to bring water to surface and produce soft topping.
- Smooths, and shapes surfaces of freshly poured concrete.
- Finishes concrete surfaces, or wets and rubs concrete with abrasive stone to impart finish.
- Removes rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces, and patches holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
- Molds expansion joints and edges.
- Sprinkles colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish.
- Produces rough concrete surface with broom.
- Mixes cement with hoe or concrete-mixing machine.
- Assists as required with general labor work including but not limited to shoveling, raking, setting and removing forms, driving pins, constructing wooden forms (sawing, nailing, etc.), and pushing or pulling curb machine.
- Breaks up and repairs old concrete surfaces.
What you will need: (Minimum qualifications)
Education and Experience:
- Minimum 6 months experience as a Concrete Finisher highly preferred, this is not an entry level position.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to understand work instructions.
- Communicate effectively with management and colleagues.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform stooping, bending, and crouching as necessary.
- Capability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds frequently, and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
- Manual dexterity to handle generators, lumber, construction materials, power tools, and hand tools.
- Physical agility involves stretching, proper leg placement, and repetitive motions with arms and hands.
- Constant vigilance and awareness of multiple activities on the construction site, including the presence of other workers, equipment, and vehicles.
- Frequent walking on uneven surfaces, including outdoor terrain in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely climb on and off heavy mobile equipment.
Work Environment:
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Exposure to high levels of noise, grease, and dust typically associated with construction projects.
- Regular proximity to heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- The presence of common substances found on construction sites, such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and ready-mixed concrete.
