Job description

The Human Resource Store Specialist must have physical strength and be able to perform the physical tasks of the position.  This position works in a retail grocery store environment.

  • Position Summary: 
  • The primary purpose of this position is to manage all Human Resource functions on behalf of the store management team. Frequent independent judgments are essential. The Human Resources Store Specialist (HRSS) must maintain a high level of professionalism, confidentiality and perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and state and federal laws.  This position requires a comprehensive understanding of all necessary operating systems and programs related to these responsibilities. 
  • Essential Job Functions: 
  • Our People Are Great (OPAG) Initiatives/Associate Development 
  • Work closely with Store manager, Co-manager and all store level department managers, district HR Coordinators and members of the division HR department to identify opportunities in the execution of our OPAG initiatives and to facilitate these for the benefit of our associate, facilitate expected levels of execution.   
  • Support and coordinate all recognition programs with corporate office. 
  • Oversee all PED’S being completed in a timely manner and ensure acceptable standard for quality performance appraisals.  Communicate PED progress and process changes to department managers.   
  • Execute training initiatives in a timely manner to include NHO, job skills OJT and DTV/ WBL’s and DTV’S required for each role at entry into role and as annually required for development of associates. 
  • Monitor and update act for all required associate training.

  • Associate Communication 
  • Ensure associate communication initiatives are delivered in an effort to improve associate engagement, including break room communication boards, payroll attachments, company newsletter, quarterly all associate meetings, meeting notices, open enrollment etc.   
  • Assist store management with scheduling, facilitating, and administration of the meet Mac communication.   
  • Assist in the administration of associate surveys 
  • Facilitates annual benefits meetings and on-going communication 
  • Assists in the scheduling and communication of annual health screenings. 
  • Serves as store level expert on total rewards/benefits package.   
  • Actively participate in huddle meetings and department head meetings to share important updates for associates (i.e. total rewards, community events, store news, Birthdays, anniversaries, promotions and etc.) 
  • Participate and assist in planning various associate events including participation in cultural council and star meetings. 
  • Ensure DTV equipment is operational and proper program distributions are received.

  • Staffing/Recruiting 
  • Perform new hire interview process to standard as set by division HR department. Use information from the interview to place the associate in the proper department to ensure greater probability of success.   
  • Proactively perform staffing duties including, but not limited to, performing initial interviews, hiring, pre-employment drug screens, criminal back ground checks and conducting NHO. 
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels at home store in accordance with company policies and staffing guidelines 
  •  
  • Record Keeping 
  • Ensure no applicant is put to work prior to clearing drug and background checks.   
  • Daily administration of the absenteeism and tardiness policy in a fair and consistent manner on behalf of the store management team.   
  • Process highly confidential information, maintaining and respecting confidentiality  
  • Create an organized system to ensure that associate records are maintained confidentially and correctly placed in appropriate files (medical, safety, personnel) records not only maintained at store level but also conveyed accurately and timely to division office and Human Resources Shared Services Center.   
  • Oversee completion of all new hire paperwork and forward to Human Resources Shared Services Center in a timely manner.   
  • Payroll administration, including submission of accurate and timely information. 
  • Maintain associate file

  • Associate and Labor Relations 
  • Create partnership with store management team to ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies and practices and to support positive associate relations.   
  • All legal compliance issues are handled properly to include but not limited to having no minor compliance errors, ensuring all associates have proper legal paperwork completed etc.  
  • Immediately communicate with District Human Resources Coordinator about potential legal, policy or ethics related concerns which would require their involvement beyond store level.  (Harassment claims, EEOC, policy violations, complaints on store management etc.) 
  • Maintain awareness of store policy manual and state and federal laws to maintain compliance.  Understand resources available to assist in policy and law interpretation including district Human Resources Coordinator and Division Human Resources. 
  • Ensure education and compliance with policies on personal appearance, grooming and uniforms 
  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal applicable laws 
  • Must adhere to all established policies and procedures.   
  • Assist store management with associate relations issues 
  • Facilitate leave of absence requests.
