Job description

We are looking for a positive individual with a good attitude to join our Agronomy Team. This key role provides an opportunity for professional growth and development within a dynamic golf course maintenance operation. Aside from basic turf knowledge and golf course maintenance practices, the candidate’s expected responsibilities include, but will not be limited to: operating equipment; irrigation scheduling, troubleshooting, and repairs; chemical and fertilizer applications; water and moisture management; weekend crew supervision; staff management; working closely with Superintendent and First Assistant Superintendent to help plan and execute short term and long term goals.

About the Course

Providence Country Club is part of the McConnell Golf portfolio of courses which includes 16 private clubs stretching across North and South Carolina, and into Tennessee and Virginia. Established in 1989, Providence Country Club is full-service private club located in Charlotte, North Carolina with a very active membership. Its Dan Maples golf course is the center of activity anchored by fourteen tennis courts, state-of-the-art aquatic and fitness facilities as well as modern dining and event spaces. Since joining the McConnell Golf portfolio in 2016, the clubhouse at Providence has enjoyed $1.3 million in upgrades including a new fitness center, kid’s room and Golf Shop, as well as new landscaping to compliment. In 2018, the golf course underwent a $3 million renovation by architect Kris Spence to restore bunkers with Capillary Concrete system, add new and expanded irrigation along with a new pump station for better course conditioning, remove 450 trees throughout the course, and transition the greens from bentgrass to Champion bermudagrass. New equipment lease package April 2026. With McConnell Golf, several tools have been put into place for the Agronomy Team to be successful in the near and distant future.


Qualifications

The Second Assistant Superintendent is a key position within the department whose input will be expected and valued. The ideal candidate is an honest, hardworking individual who has the drive and ambition to become a Golf Course Superintendent. 2-4 year Turf Certificate/Degree preferred but not required. Must have irrigation experience. Must have good problem solving and communication skills. Valid Driver’s License required. If you do not have a NC Pesticide License, we will help you obtain one.
