Job description

Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies** \r\n

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform skilled work in the operation of trucks and related automotive equipment. Employees are responsible for the operation of over the road trucks with a GVW rating of 26,001 pounds or greater and the operation of related off-road equipment used in the maintenance of County gravel roads. The County Road Equipment Operator II is distinguished from the County Road Equipment Operator I class in that an incumbent operates a dump truck in which the work requires considerable skill in manipulating the heavy motor equipment and constant attention to safety of operation in order to prevent accidents; and distinguished from the County Road Equipment Operator III in that the incumbent does not operate heavy construction equipment. The major work responsibilities may include: driving and operating a 2-ton and tandem axle dump truck with a GVW rating of 26,001 pounds or greater; servicing and performing basic preventive maintenance checks on trucks and related automotive equipment; performing manual work as required; maintaining records of fuel and material usage and maintenance work performed on equipment; and operating a 1-ton and a 2 ton pick up truck and other equipment such as a backhoe, sheeps foot roller, smooth drum roller and tractor. Work is performed under the general supervision of a District Maintenance Superintendent who gives assignments to the employee and frequently inspects the work. However, employees ordinarily determine work methods and work without immediate supervision.\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

Six months of experience in the operation of 2-ton, tandem dump trucks and/or other heavy equipment limited to motor graders, front end loaders, and excavators. Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License - Class B with air brakes.\r\n\r\n\r\nNOTE:Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the\r\nrequisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.\r\n\r\n

Must possess and maintain an insurable driving record. \r\n\r\n
