The Town of Culpeper Police Department is seeking qualified applications for a Records Specialist. The selected candidate will be placed at the level of Records Specialist I or Records Specialist II depending on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated capabilities. This position performs skilled clerical and technical work involving the coding, reporting, filing, research, and maintenance of police records within computerized records systems.

Skills & Qualifications:
Education & Experience: Records Specialist I: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Possession of VCIN certification is required, or ability to obtain within 30 days. This is an entry-level position requiring a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Records Specialist II: Requires a minimum of two years of experience as a Records Specialist I and demonstrated ability to perform all duties of the Records Specialist I. Candidates must demonstrate highly developed knowledge, skills, and abilities in police records and reporting, including accuracy and timeliness in VCIN/NCIC entries and audits.
Advancement to Records Specialist II: In addition to the experience requirements, advancement to Records Specialist II requires demonstrated proficiency in police records and reporting; knowledge of The Library of Virginia destruction schedules and processes related to criminal records; knowledge and ability to process Subpoena Duces Tecum requests and extensive FOIA requests; completion of a leadership development training course; and active participation in a civic outreach and/or volunteer program serving the community.
