Job description

Description

 The Assistant Mechanical Services Manager assists in directing, planning, organizing, supervising, and participating in specialized mechanical support operations throughout Lagoon Amusement Park. This position assists with the oversight of Crew Managers and department team members assigned to new ride and attraction installation projects, crane operations, automotive and fleet maintenance, machine shop operations, industrial paint shop operations, fencing, and generator maintenance. The Assistant Mechanical Services Manager helps ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with manufacturer specifications, industry best practices, and in accordance with Company policies and procedures while supporting park operations, ride and attraction projects, infrastructure, and overall park readiness. 


Essential Functions of the Job

  • Assist in directing, supervising, scheduling, training, and supporting Crew Managers and department team members assigned to fleet maintenance, machine shop, crane operations, industrial paint shop, generator maintenance, fencing, and ride project operations. 
  • Participate in and assist with overseeing automotive and fleet maintenance operations including inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and operational readiness of department vehicles and equipment. 
  • Assist with managing machine shop operations including machining, fabrication, welding, and specialty mechanical projects. 
  • Assist with overseeing industrial paint shop operations including surface preparation, coatings application, painting, and paint safety compliance. 
  • Coordinate and assist with crane operations, ride movement, heavy equipment support, specialized lifting activities, and mechanical support projects throughout the park. 
  • Assist with the installation, assembly, rehabilitation, and disassembly of rides and attractions, including seasonal or new ride setup projects. 
  • Assist in ensuring maintenance and project activities are completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications, applicable codes, industry best practices, ASTM standards, and Company policies and procedures. 
  • Maintain an understanding and working knowledge of ASTM standards, amusement ride safety practices, and safe mechanical operations. 
  • Ensure proper Lockout/Tagout procedures and safe work practices are followed during maintenance and project operations. 
  • Maintain accurate and timely records related to inspections, fleet maintenance, equipment certifications, repairs, projects, and department operations. 
  • Assist with monitoring department labor budgets, supply budgets, project budgets, operational expenses, inventory, materials, and staffing levels. 
  • Assist with department scheduling, staffing assignments, overtime management, project priorities, and operational support needs. 
  • Assist with interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, evaluating, and developing Crew Managers and department team members. 
  • Provide leadership and instruction regarding welding safety, crane safety, rigging practices, respiratory protection, equipment operation, and department safety programs. 
  • Coordinate projects and operational support with Engineering, Ride Maintenance, Construction, Electrical, Operations, Safety, and other departments. 
  • Ensure department facilities, shops, tools, equipment, and work areas remain clean, organized, and safe. 
  • Operate department vehicles, forklifts, cranes, lifts, welding equipment, and specialized tools safely and effectively. 
  • Serve as acting Mechanical Services Manager in their absence. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 


Requirements

Required Qualifications/Abilities


  • Must be at least 18 years of age. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of mechanical, industrial maintenance, fabrication, welding, fleet maintenance, or related experience required. 
  • Previous leadership, crew lead, or supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, welding, fabrication, heavy equipment operations, fleet maintenance, industrial shop operations, and mechanical repair practices required. 
  • Effective troubleshooting, organizational, leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, fabrication drawings, and maintenance documents. 
  • Ability to train, motivate, coach, and support employees while promoting teamwork and accountability. 
  • Must be self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently and in a team environment. 
  • Must be able to work comfortably at heights, including catwalks, aerial lifts, crane baskets, scaffolding, platforms, and elevated work areas. 
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • AIMS certification or the ability to obtain and maintain AIMS certification preferred. 
  • Applicable certifications related to welding, crane operations, rigging, CDL operation, or heavy equipment operation are preferred. 
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Utah Driver License or have the ability to obtain one. 
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and a variable schedule, including early mornings, weekends, evenings, holidays, and extended hours as operational needs require.

Working Conditions

  • This position requires working in an environment that includes exposure to high noise levels, bright/flashing light or darkened areas, fog or haze, large crowds and other factors typical to an amusement park setting.
  • This position will perform essential job duties outdoors and be exposed to environmental elements including, but not limited to, extreme heat or cold, wind, dust, noise, rain, snow, and direct sunlight.
  • This position may require working at heights, around moving mechanical equipment, in confined spaces, and in elevated work platforms.
  • This position may require responding to operational issues and emergencies during park operating and non-operating hours.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described below must be met to successfully perform the essential job responsibilities.

  • Must be able to use fingers, hands, arms, and legs to reach, operate equipment, climb stairs, evacuate guests from lifts, perform routine safety checks, and use hands to handle or feel.
  • Able to sit, stand, walk (at a specified pace), crouch, crawl, kneel, reach above the head or stoop for the duration of a shift up to eight (8) hours
  • Able to regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and up to one hundred (100) pounds assisted
  • Able to move equipment which would include pushing, pulling, bending, and lifting
  • Able to walk quickly to and from job locations up to one (1) mile distance.
  • Must have sufficient hearing and visual acuity to observe equipment, Lagoon guests, etc.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
