Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS TESTING (CMT) DRILLER HELPER will assist the drill crew chief in solid stem and hollow stem auger drilling techniques. On the construction site(s), the assistant will help move, set up and operate drilling rigs and all related equipment to drill holes for geotechnical exploration test borings. Duties may include: Assisting in drilling operations on construction sites.

Ensure that equipment is clean, maintained and mobilized as directed. Loading and unloading trucks. Maintaining and expediting field supplies.

Assist with moving drilling rig and equipment from site to site and set up. Operate air pumps, water and mud pumps and equipment needed to correct problems in drilled holes caused by mechanical breakdowns or by harmful natural conditions. Connecting and disconnecting the lower parts of the drill pipe when it is lowered into and raised from the hole.

Catching and recording samples of drilling cuttings to be analyzed. Assisting in measuring test boring locations. Daily travel to project sites is expected, with overnight stays when necessary to meet client schedules.

Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor Maintain compliance with all company policies and proceduresEDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED required Class A Commercial Driver's License Preferred Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate in English with internal and external clients Basic math skills Valid driver's license required; must have satisfactory driving record in accordance with EMC fleet insurance requirements Must be able to pass a background check as required by military, industrial, port, and other client sites. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service Must be reliable and punctual. Must follow and enforce all safety standards.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with OSHA guidelines and directives, in conjunction with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards The job is physically demanding, requiring heavy manual lifting and carrying, walking over rough terrain; working around heavy traffic, dust, noise, fumes, moving machinery, muddy and oily drill sites and working in all weather conditions. Must be able to withstand regular exposure to outdoor worksite weather conditions that may be wet and/or humid environments, with extreme cold and/or heat; sites may be moderate to moderately loud Must be able to perform tasks that require long-term standing and/or repetitive motions May be required to drive long distances daily Must be able to regularly lift, move, or shake up to 40 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 60-80 pounds, and occasionally move more than 100 pounds Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephoneEDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED required Class A Commercial Driver's License Preferred Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate in English with internal and external clients Basic math skills Valid driver's license required; must have satisfactory driving record in accordance with EMC fleet insurance requirements Must be able to pass a background check as required by military, industrial, port, and other client sites.
