Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.

Scope of Position: This position is for an Die Performance Engineer within the Corning Environmental Technologies (CET) Division, located at the Erwin Manufacturing Complex (EMC).

The role will report into the Die Performance Manager. The responsibilities for this role include driving deep into the integration and understanding of die/forming interactions to deliver performance and quality improvements in extrusion through dies. Additional responsibilities include leading or supporting both short and long-term die improvement projects.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain the interface required between die manufacturing and CET’s extrusion plants for die performance of new and existing die designs.
  • Ensure proper support for the resolution of extrusion performance issues related to dies, which includes troubleshooting and/or project leadership.
  • Support a culture of strong partnership between die manufacturing, extrusion plants and Division Engineering.
  • Lead and/or support projects focused on extrusion cost and capability improvements through dies.
  • Author and conduct rigorous experimentation in support of business objectives.
  • Engage with peers and leadership the following organizations to accomplish the mission: Division Engineering, PPD, extrusion plants and the business team.

Travel Requirements: < 10% to CET’s extrusion sites (domestic and international)

Hours of work/work schedule: Standard work schedule during business hours; Monday – Friday with some evening and weekend hours required to meet production,  and project needs as necessary. Weekend team participation is a requirement of this role.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field with demonstrated work experience in a manufacturing setting. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics degrees are also considered with the appropriate work experiences.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of process engineering experience

Required Skills:

  • Manufacturing experience in a factory setting
  • Applied knowledge of die manufacturing and/or forming
  • Demonstrated cross functional team experience
  • Demonstrated efficiency at technical problem solving
  • Performance Excellence training (Six Sigma, Lean, etc.)
  • Fundamental engineering skillset
  • Project management experience - Leading or supporting
  • Ability to manage and prioritize work across multiple projects
  • Functional knowledge of MEE and MIE
  • Track record of acting with urgency to meet objectives
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues both domestically and internationally

Desired Skills:

  • Comfortable working with data and using established engineering methods to draw conclusions and make recommendations
  • Mechanical aptitude with a general knowledge of machining operations
  • Experience working with external vendors and equipment suppliers
  • Experiment Design (DOE) experience
  • Basic understanding of Corning Environmental Technology Products and Processes outside of die manufacturing

The range for this position is  $84,932.00 - $116,782.00  assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
