Job description

We’re seeking a motivated Design Technician to join our growing team in-office in West Palm Beach, FL If you’re passionate about electric utility design and enjoy hands-on work, this is your chance to play a key role in exciting infrastructure projects while working closely with a supportive and experienced team.

Job Summary:

Design Technician applies developing technical expertise to solve simple problems, and management skills to provide oversight of work in a specific area of developing expertise, with close supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills in their field of study, and the ability to work with some degree of independence.

What You’ll Do:

  • Complete design task for associated utility design projects. Tasks include but are not limited to drafting, engineering calculations, easement validation; design/construction cost estimating & permit package development.
  • Managing multiple projects in order to assure timely, successful completion for projects resulting in high levels of customer satisfaction and company/departmental goal achievements.
  • Learn and incorporate company safety rules and policies, company design standards and governing authority regulations into daily work and designs. Designs will meet all requirements of applicable company safety standards, company distribution construction standards, and governing authority regulations
  • Addresses conductivity issues identified in client’s support database and related systems per engineering guidelines.
  • Completes checklists and other paperwork required for engineering package delivery to client per engineering guidelines.
  • Liaises as required with engineers, supervisors, and drafters to ensure adherence to client specifications.
  • Drafts final design work prints using the specified application.
    Encodes or assigns work steps for construction and financial records per client’s specifications.
  • Prepares permit drawings.
  • Utilizes existing project specifications to produce an acceptable engineering design.
  • Makes design production related decisions to respond to operational demands and client needs.
  • Completes required project status forms and timesheets in a timely manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of general construction or utility experience preferred
  • High School Diploma required. Technical certificate in drafting or other technical skill preferred.
  • Basic design skills required; experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation preferred. Knowledge of ArcGIS is a plus
