GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS This is an entry level position for students currently enrolled in college for Electrical Engineering or a related technical program. This position involves learning routine engineering tasks, data collection and working with work necessary software programs. Additionally, this position will work on special electrical projects assigned by the Supervisor and Team Lead.

Work is performed under the direction of a supervisor or senior engineering technicians and checks upon completion to ensure quality, accuracy, and completeness. This internship is with Lakeland Electric ED Substation Operations located at 1140 East Parker Street in Lakeland, FL. Interns can work up to 30 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assist in data collection Perform administrative tasks to assist the Energy Deliver Substation Operations team in writing work orders Work on Special Projects assigned by Supervisor and Team Lead Downloading relay events to analyze fault data Complete other duties assigned by Supervisor and Team Lead Ability to use Schneider designer software and Visual for Photometrics May be required to drive City of Lakeland vehicle to perform assigned duties Participate in skills training as appropriate Read blueprints and diagrams for electrical systems ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform related work as required QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE) Enrollment as a junior in a degree seeking program in an accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering or Enrollment in a technical program related to the Power, Energy, or Electrical field at an accredited institution. Required: A Resume must be uploaded with the application to be considered for this position Three (3) to Five (5) paragraph essay about your interest in working at the Electrical Substation Operations department KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - specifically Word and Outlook Valid Florida driver's license Data entry skills Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with supervisor, co- workers, other City employees and the general public Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and to request clarification when needed WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS: Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis, routine keyboard operations The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing and speaking All City of Lakeland positions are subject to testing (e.g. written, oral, performance, computerized, interview, and/or any combination)
