Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize how America and its allies access and apply high-performance propulsion, from hypersonics to solid rocket motors, satellite maneuvering and launch. We design and deliver propulsion and defense systems that solve the most urgent and critical national security demands.
As a Configuration Engineer I at Ursa Major, you will be an essential part of the team that ensures our hardware designs are correctly documented, traceable, and ready for release into manufacturing. This is an entry-level, individual contributor role intended for recent graduates or early-career engineers with a passion for technical organization, digital systems, and aerospace product development.
You'll gain hands-on experience working within our Windchill PLM platform, supporting engineering change processes, document control, and configuration accuracy of CAD and BOM data. You'll be closely mentored by experienced team members and play a key part in building and maintaining the digital foundation for Ursa's hardware programs.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist in creating, tracking, and releasing engineering documents, part numbers, and drawings within the PLM system
  • Support processing of engineering change requests (ECRs) and change orders (ECOs), ensuring accuracy and compliance with workflows
  • Maintain metadata, document links, and version history across CAD models, parts, and BOM structures
  • Help review documentation packages for formatting, completeness, and compliance with internal configuration standards
  • Coordinate with engineers to ensure CAD assemblies and product data are properly released and traceable
  • Support the creation and maintenance of engineering bill of materials (eBOMs) in PLM
  • Identify discrepancies in configuration data and escalate issues to senior team members
  • Participate in the preparation of internal configuration audits and support responses to data requests
  • Contribute to team documentation and assist in maintaining CM process guides and SOPs

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 0-2 years of professional experience, including relevant internship or co-op experience
  • Familiarity with PLM systems (Windchill preferred) and an understanding of basic change control concepts
  • Exposure to CAD tools such as Creo or NX; able to navigate assemblies and recognize part structure
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn configuration management best practices
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and supporting hardware development programs

Preferred Experience:
  • Internship or project experience involving engineering documentation, CAD, or data management
  • Familiarity with part numbering conventions, document revision practices, or BOM structuring
  • Exposure to aerospace product development or manufacturing environments
  • Experience working in or learning about AS9100, ISO 9001, or other quality-driven environments
  • Interest in building long-term expertise in PLM, configuration management, or CAD integration

Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $72,000 - $90,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. What we can't quantify for you are the exciting challenges, supportive team, and amazing culture we enjoy.
