Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Data Center Tech Apprentice is an entry-level position responsible for assisting with the installation, termination, testing, and maintenance of low voltage systems. This role works under the supervision of Experienced Technicians, Floor Leads, or Installation Site Leaders, while gaining hands-on experience in the field.

*This role requires up to 100% travel.*

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Installation of structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optic cables
  • Support the installation of network equipment, patch panels, racks, and cable management systems
  • Pull, route, and secure cables according to project specifications and industry standards
  • Label and document cabling installations accurately
  • Use basic hand tools and testing equipment under supervision
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Follow company safety procedures and customer site requirements
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
  • Perform other responsibilities designated by the Floor Lead or Installation Site Leader
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Interest in telecommunications, networking, or low voltage systems
  • Basic understanding of hand tools and willingness to learn new skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic and dependable attendance
  • Ability to lift, up to 50 lbs. and work in various environments (indoor, outdoor, ladders, etc.)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Physically placing, removing, or modifying equipment, or basket trays
  • Ability to trouble shoot cabling issues as well as resolve problems
  • Good written and oral communication skills

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors, coworkers, and customers.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, installation instructions, and basic technical documentation.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions to complete assigned tasks safely and accurately.
  • Ability to ask questions and seek clarification when instructions or project requirements are unclear.
  • Ability to maintain professional communication on job sites and represent the company in a positive manner.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time while performing installation and service work.
  • Ability to work in various environments including construction sites, equipment rooms, ceilings, and confined spaces.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights when installing or routing cabling.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment required.
  • Ability to travel to various job sites and work locations as required.
  • Ability to work 12 consecutive hours.
  • Ability to work around other trades and construction personnel in a fast-paced project environment.
