Job description

Position Summary:

The Horb lab is searching for an RA I/II to work on an NIH-funded resource project to create models of human disease in the amphibian Xenopus. This is a research-based position that involves using genome editing technology (CRISPR-Cas) to create mutations in Xenopus embryos. This is an exciting opportunity to get hands on experience with CRISPR-Cas technology, including molecular biology and microinjection. The job also includes working with scientists from around the world to develop and analyze custom CRISPR mutants. Must be willing to work occasional weekends and nights due to timing of experiments. Must be willing and able to work independently and as a team with fellow RAs or visiting scientists. This is an entry level position meant to hone research skills and interests.

Other responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting the PI and other lab members in their experiments, assisting in workshops, handling frogs, animal care, exploring literature, analyzing sequencing, dissections, and microscopy.

Basic Qualifications:

B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in biology or related field. Experience in molecular biology and/or embryology is beneficial though not essential. Basic lab skills are recommended, but all skills will be taught and developed during the course of the job.
