About the English and Philosophy Department
The Department of English and Philosophy offers three undergraduate majors and an MFA in Creative Writing. It offers minors in English, Philosophy, and Writing, along with a variety of certificate programs including Health and Medical Humanities, Ethical Theory and Practice, Philosophy in Science and Technology, and Writing and Publishing. The department further develops and supports the reading, writing and critical-thinking skills of all Drexel students through the First-Year Writing Program. Creative Writing, Literature and Philosophy courses are offered as both electives and required courses to complement a variety of programs across the University.
Job Summary
The adjunct faculty member will employ a variety of strategies to foster student learning and discussions, as well as encourage active learning in all students, maintain proper course-related records, and evaluate student work and provide students with feedback as to the progress toward meeting the objectives of each course they teach. Each adjunct faculty member is responsible for effectively teaching students in the assigned classroom or online. Responsibilities may include teaching days or evenings, with the potential for online only, in-person only, or a combination of both.
Essential Functions
  • Teach required number of credit hours per quarter based on contract.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills related to teaching methodology, curriculum development, and evaluation.
  • Evaluate student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes.
  • Schedule one office hour per week per class.
  • Schedule administrative time for course preparation.
  • Maintain communication with the program director regarding any course or student issues.
  • Perform other similar duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in English, Philosophy, Rhetoric/Composition, Creative Writing, or a related field.
