These positions are ideal for recent graduates or those new to COBOL, often focusing on maintaining, testing, and updating existing mainframe systems. Typical duties may include writing simple COBOL programs, fixing bugs, and learning how large-scale legacy systems operate under the supervision of experienced developers. Entry level COBOL roles provide foundational experience in mainframe environments and can lead to more advanced programming or analyst positions.

Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication help you understand legacy codebases and collaborate with senior developers. These skills are crucial to maintaining critical business systems, troubleshooting issues, and supporting ongoing technology needs in industries that rely on COBOL.
